Charles City police stop man driving with booze, find “illicit drugs”

CHARLES CITY, IOWA – Police in Charles City stopped a car with a driver holding a container of booze and then obtained a search warrant before finding illicit drugs inside.

Having already announced other searches in recent days, the Charles City police department described another search warrant they conducted on Friday, July 1.
A vehicle driven by 21-year-old David Carothers of Charles City was stopped near Clark and Pfeiffer Streets. Carothers was found to have an open container of alcohol. During the investigation, officers determined that a search warrant should be obtained. That led to a search of the vehicle.

“Numerous illicit drugs and items were seized from the vehicle,” as a result of the search, police said. Carothers was taken to the county jail, held briefly, and released, awaiting a court date.

Police say more charges are pending in the case.
