
FOREST CITY, IOWA – Many Vietnam Veterans, families and friends attended Operation LZ –Welcome Home in Forest City, Iowa this past August. The event drew veterans from many states with a weekend of recognition, honor and thankfulness to all those serving during the conflict. The organizers of the event have now released a 17 minute video posted on the internet on You Tube, which can be viewed at the bottom of this story.
From the arrival of The Wall – which was escorted to the event by 350 motorcycles and a Cobra helicopter – to the exciting LZ Airshow, viewers will see the activities and reactions from those who attended. Also included are segments from special speakers including Vietnam Veteran Gov. Terry Branstad and 7 year POW Larry Spencer.
Operation LZ was organized by 21 North Iowa Citizens supported by 125 contributors and over 300 volunteers. It took two years to organize and was attended by an estimated 25,000 including 1900 area students who attended “Education Days” and visited with Vietnam Vets.
