I was in Chicago buying merchandise for a gift shop I ran on Delaware Avenue, immediately South of the Red Llama bar. I sold Italian knit sweaters with the Red Llama labels sown into them. That along with local artwork and various sundry items you’d find it a store like that. Later we discontinued the store and expanded the lounge into that space.

We built a stage and booked recording artists, increased our seating to 240… we had the crowds we wanted but at the end of the week the musicians got the lion’s share of the revenue. Not smart… it’s not how much you take in, it’s how much you keep that is the yardstick by which you measure with.

While in Chicago I met a young girl who was a waitress in a bar; I stopped in to have a drink. I mentioned to her that I ran a bar in Iowa. She said she wanted to come work for me and after she called a couple times, I and my partner sent her plane tickets. We got her an apartment, furnished it nicely and she started to work. She was a big hit with our clientele and as a result she made very good money. Guys were tipping her heavy in hopes of getting a date. Then she started missing work, like New Year’s Eve. Next she started bouncing checks for $5.00 & $10.00 around town, then we realized she had a drinking problem. I paid off the checks but by then the police picked her up and jailed her. I decided not to bail her out so she sat there about a week… then on the day she was released she came to the bar to tell me she was leaving town. She thanked me for everything I had done, then this is what she said; “Watch yourself Peter,” she said, “the chief of police, which was McClintock, “said he would let me out early if I signed a paper he wrote stating you brought me across state lines for purposes of prostitution.” “You have been good to me,” she said, and I would never lie just to get out three days early.”

This then was McClintock; a bigot in our mist filled with hate and envy. Jim and I were young men trying our best to find a path through this life, we never had as much as a parking ticket yet this man appointed to protect the public trust was trying to destroy a business in our city. Do you know why? If you do I would like to know…

  1. Peter,

    Why? 2 reasons:

One was jealously and the second is the Mason City Police Department was corrupt.

  2. I’ll ask because I don’t know, is Stanly McClintock still alive? If he is, I think it would be interesting to get his take on all of this.

    1. Stan would be way about 114 years old now. He was a very stubborn, German man and had no real police training. When he was hired in the 40’s it was brawn over brains…. Unfortunately he was a real train wreck. His old German dad lived with him and his wife and spoke very little English. He taught their Mina bird to say,
” Da hell mitcha” when people came in. Stan’s wife was a wonderful person, and a phenomenal Registered Nurse, who like many of that generation, stayed regardless. Thank God those days are over…

  3. It was the times; senseless hatred fueled by ignorance and nurtured by envy and prejudices were the order of the day. No one cared enough to seek lawyers to retaliate such comments. There are examples of these infected minds on this very blog coming from the person who said McClintock knew something. This is someone who will only speak out under the cover of darkness where they can hide safe from criticism…afraid to face the public….afraid and envious of people who are doers and take chances. How pathetic is that?

    1. Speaking of that, I remember as a young child seeing police officers go in the back door of Johns Café, which was on the corner of 6th and south Adams. Always wondered what they went in there for, but as I got older, I figured it out. Ahh, the good old days…

  4. By the way Peter, I would like to say welcome back. I don’t always agree with everything you say, but I do find it interesting that two people from pretty much the same time period can see things differently. Nothing wrong with that. As I said before, I grew up with Greeks and then worked with them and for them as I grew older. I in everything they know they were very much family in everything they did.

  5. There was a lot of that in the 60’s. I was accused of having a knife during a fight one time. I never carried a knife and they knew it but they planted one. Luckily someone saw them do it and they dropped the charge.

      1. Right here right now chicken sh##. Just like all the other times you won’t show up. You are all mouth. Go play with yourself in your renta wreck.

        1. I’m not going to show up at your house because 1. I don’t know who you are or where you live, and 2. I’m not an idiot. If you want to meet in a public space…name it. I’ll be there. I’m sick of you thug. I’ll bring it, and you’ll go running guaranteed.

          1. You don’t know who LVS is? That’s not what you had posted on your anti nit page. You had names for some of these posters. Then you deleted them…..why were they deleted? Is it because you’re scared shit less? You also keep saying that the posters here are trying to murder you. NIT true. No one has said that in the least. Go smoke some more and come up with more trash for your Facebook page. You are pathetic.

          2. @Dumb A$$-As I said, you are all mouth and no guts. You constantly shoot off your mouth and threaten people, then when it comes time to put up or shut up you come up with some B.S. excuse. As I said before-COWARD.

          3. 1. Liar. 2. Um, I gotta call bullshit here. 3. * (see #2.) 4. Sure tough guy, again see #2.

“Makin Time” more like makin a mess in your shorts if LVS gets a hold of you.
