investigateCOUNCIL BLUFFS – Police in Council bluffs, Iowa reported a violent carjacking early Wednesday morning, and a search is underway for a suspect.

The incident occurred in Council Bluffs on June 3 at 3:16 AM, when police were called to the 1200 block of Seventh Avenue to investigate. A victim, 18-year-old Caine Petersen of Council Bluffs reported that he was driving down the street when a suspect struck his vehicle with a hard object. Petersen stopped and exited his vehicle to see what had hit it when a confrontation ensued with the suspect. At that point the suspect produced a metal chain with a lock on the end of it and began swinging it at Petersen. The pair then began running down the street. At some point the suspect stopped chasing Petersen and ran back to Petersen’s vehicle, which was idling in the street. The suspect got into Petersen’s white Volkswagen Jetta and fled the scene. A police officer soon located the vehicle some distance away, which was still running but unoccupied.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations is now investigating this incident. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall and 170 lbs with brown facial hair.
