Forest City, Iowa – Waldorf College music students are dishing up pasta to raise funds for a cause near and dear to their hearts: music education.

The Zeta Lambda chapter of the Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Fraternity is hosting a pasta dinner on Monday, April 8, from 5:30 to7:30 p.m. in Waldorf’s Salveson Ballroom. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Northwood-Kensett Community School District music program.

After the group did a bit of homework, the Northwood-Kensett music program was selected as the funds recipient. “Our chapter did some research on finding a few school music programs in the area that needed some additional funding, and from those we took a vote,” explained Dr. Kristín Taylor, Mu Phi Epsilon faculty advisor and associate professor of music at Waldorf.

“This dinner is meaningful for our students since many of them will end up teaching in local school systems and will understand very well how schools are cutting funding to their music programs,” said Dr. Taylor. “I think our chapter is making a strong statement that music education should not be cut, that it is valuable and an essential part to any student’s educational experience.”

Diners can choose from a selection of pasta and sauces prepared by chapter members. Waldorf and Northwood-Kensett high school music students will provide entertainment, and prizes will be raffled off throughout the event.

Tickets for the pasta dinner are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children. Contact Kayla Meehan at kayla.meehan@waldorf.edu for more information or to purchase tickets. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

Diners are also welcome to attend a free music event that evening in Waldorf’s Recital Hall. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., two Iowa State professors will present “Shouts of Joy: A Presentation of New Hymns.”
