DES MOINES – Tucked into Governor Branstad’s proposed budget for this fiscal year is more supposed pain for schools, closing of mental health facilities, and a 9% funding increase for his office.

According to Democrats, an analysis from the non-partisan Legislative Services Agency shows Governor Branstad’s budget for next year includes a 9.1% increase for his own office – and they are furious about it.

“Governor Branstad should be embarrassed. A 9% increase for his own office but only 1% for our schools and kids is just wrong. Iowans shouldn’t be fooled by his hollow rhetoric on the budget this year,” said House Democratic Leader Mark Smith of Marshalltown.

According to a report prepared by the Legislative Fiscal Bureau this week, Governor Branstad’s fiscal year 2016 budget recommendations include a 9.1% increase, or $200,000, for “increased day-to-day operational expenses of the Governor’s Office.”

“Budgets are more than just numbers, they reflect our priorities. It’s clear the Governor’s biggest priority is himself,” added Smith.

Branstad’s $7.3 billion budget proposal for the next fiscal year ignored school spending, democrats said, while other liberals were alarmed at the proposed closing of mental health facilities.

He can’t fund Education — when he says he is the leader in Education. Maybe he is trying to get back the money that he gave Jim Gibbons for not working or supposedly working from home???? And, the others that defrauded him.

Everybody gotta tighten up their belt except Terry.

We feel the same way about Obama.

I feel the same way about every politician – democrat or republican
