Two Iowans dead after driving car into path of semi

logo-iowa-state-patrolTAMA COUNTY – A woman pulled her car into the path of an on-coming semi truck Friday afternoon and her vehicle was struck broadside, killing herself and a passenger the vehicle.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, on Friday January 16 at about 3:30 PM, 52-year-old Jane Putnam of Marshalltown and her passenger, 47-year-old Dennis Porter of Washburn Iowa, were killed when her 2005 Ford Focus was hit broadside by a semi truck. She had been stopped on the south shoulder of the east bound lanes of highway 30 near AA Avenue and then pulled out onto the highway, possibly attempting a u-turn, when a semi truck driven by a Pennsylvania man, 42-year-old Sidney Martin of Orrstown, struck her car.

Martin was not injured. Putnam and Porter were transported to the state medical examiner’s office.

The accident remains under investigation.
