MASON CITY – The school districts in Mason City and Clear Lake will continue to share a superintendent after a narrow vote to continue the arrangement Monday night by the Mason City school board.

School board member Mark Dodd made a motion, “on the superintendent sharing agreement I make a motion that we discontinue the sharing agreement effective July 1, 2015.” The motion was seconded by Janna Arndt, and Bob Thoms also voted “yes” to the motion.

However, Paula Recinos voted no, as did Scott Warren. Tim Becker called in via phone to also vote no. In a 3-3 tie, the motion failed. Darshini Jayawardena did not attend to enter a deciding vote.

Clear Lake has already held contentious meetings and discussions about sharing the superintendent position, held by Dr. Anita Micich. Many in Clear Lake want the agreement stopped, fearing a loss of autonomy of their school system through the agreement. Some in Clear Lake feel they do not get the attention and/or leadership they need from the superintendent.

It is obvious that neither district is happy with this situation, but neither wants to make a move. Thanks to the Clear Lake school district on standing firm on their athletic program. She wouldn’t get away with what she tried to do in Mason City.

It’s too bad that if everyone that works for the school get raises but not the bus drivers. Isn’t the bus company owned by a private contractor? Our kids are some of the most precious cargo that is being shipped and I for one feel those drivers should be given annual raises. WHAT A SHAME IF THEY ARE NOT EVERY YEAR, SHAME ON THE SCHOOL SYSTEM,

I feel our district needs a new leader as we have the same problems we did10 years ago, high administration pay, too many administrators and the teachers get a raise every year. A friend of mine is a para and drives school bus for Mason City and she says the drivers haven’t had a raise in 3 years. That’s pathetic. But who gives a shit about the little people in our school system.

@FUBAR-I agree with your comment. We really need to do something to bring down the administrative cost of our school system. They are way to top heavy and are taking the money that should be going to educate the kids. They will probably be screaming for more money real soon. It happens every year. Get rid of her and some of the other administrators who are making around 100K and give the money to people that actually do the work.

last year they kept saying she was making around 185k and now 250k what the f**k happened? I must be lost about this shit. she isn’t worth it but just our drunken mayor we keep bringing them back and voting yes.

What local person (someone with ties here), who was born and raised in MC/CL, would you tab as the new superintendent?

TJ Jumper. He was such an asset at the high school. He would be an amazing superintendent in our community. He would truly have the best interests of the students at heart and listen to what the families would like to see happen in the district. AND you would see him attending school events. How many football games did Anita make it to this year???? My guess in none.

Neither town is being represented by anybody with local ties. I would guess Anitas heart is only here for tune of about 250.000 a year.
People wonder why their taxes are going up and up and up? Just look at the wages
