IOWA CITY – An Iowa City police officer was put in a very tough position late Wednesday when he pulled over an alleged drunk driver who reached for a loaded gun.
According to a report, 31-year-old Edgar Arceo of Iowa City, who is a high school girls soccer coach, was stopped by a police officer after a complaint was called in that he was driving drunk. Arceo refused to follow commands from the officer to exit the vehicle and not reach for a loaded pistol that he told the officer was in his pocket. Arceo then reached for the pistol, the report states, and the officer grabbed his wrist to take Arceo’s hand away from the pistol. Arceo became verbally abusive before he was finally arrested and taken to jail.
Arceo was charged with carrying weapons, interference with official acts and first offense operating while intoxicated. He was jailed before being released later Thursday morning, pending a court date.
Iowa City High Principal John Bacon told the Cedar Rapids Gazette Thursday that the Arceo arrested Wednesday night is the school’s girls soccer head coach.
“I’m in the process of still trying to gather all the information about this,” Bacon told the Gazette. “If it is a situation where an employee of ours is in this situation, it will be a personnel matter and we will conduct a thorough investigation.”

That goes both ways Buzz: the police officer is very lucky this man didn’t “screw a bullet into the cop’s ear” as well; all humans are vulnerable to violence. And the title of this article is misleading because the man told the officer he had a loaded gun his pocket. It sounds like it was a confusing situation about what to do next, not that this man was “reaching for a gun” to cause the officer harm…but that’s poetic publishing license for ya.
I disagree with you, again. This guy was given commands to exit the vehicle and NOT reach for the loaded pistol (he told the officer he had) so why does he do it anyway? And, the title of this article is NOT confusing either. The only thing that is confusing or confused about this article is you.
This guy is lucky to be alive. When he sobers up he should thank the police officer for not shooting him.

No, we are at a spot when the police ask you to not reach for a gun you tell them you have, you don’t reach for the gun. Even a person like you should be able to figure that out.
@Buzz-Let Philospus try pulling a gun on the officer’s out west (if he really is out west) and we won’t have to listen to his crap anymore. They will just drag his dead a## into the desert and leave him for the buzzards and snakes. Poor critters will probably die from the stench.
