Assault charge dismissed against drunk driver

MASON CITY – A charge of assault causing bodily injury against a Mason City man has been dismissed, as he pled guilty to second offense drunk driving.

Fred Huff, age 53 of Mason City, was arrested on June 16th by Mason City police for second offense drunk driving, assault causing bodily injury and a charge of criminal mischief in the fifth degree. He was again arrested by Mason City police on July 25th after he skipped a required court appearance and failed to complete a substance abuse evaluation at Prairie Ridge.

On September 17, Huff pled guilty to second offense operating while intoxicated and was ordered to pay $2,662.25 in fines, fees and court costs. He was also ordered to serve 20 days in jail, with work release. A charge of assault causing bodily injury was dismissed.

On September 19, Huff pled guilty to fourth degree criminal mischief. He was ordered to pay $995.25 in fines, fees and restitution and will serve to more days in jail.
