MASON CITY – A Mason City woman who has been arrested three times within the last year was finally sent to jail by a judge.

Rachelle Lynn Clayton, age 20, was ordered to serve 7 days of a 90 day jail term, with the rest suspended, for a guilty plea this month to assault causing bodily injury. She committed the crime on February 3, 2014 in Mason City. Judge Annette Boehlje also placed Clayton on 1 year of probation and ordered her to pay $565.25 in fines and court fees.

Clayton pled guilty to fifth degree theft in October of 2013, but never made a payment on the $426.25 she was ordered to pay Iowa courts.

On December 14 of 2013, Clayton and another man, John Daniel Murphy, ran from police before being caught as he drove drunk through Mason City. In connection with that incident, Clayton was charged with interference with official acts, unlawful consumption, fifth degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Clayton later took a plea deal and admitted her guilt to possession of drug paraphernalia and interference. She was ordered to pay $789.25 in fines and court costs, but again, records show she never made a payment on that balance.

  1. She has no intention of ever paying what she owes. The courts are stupid to think they can fine these people. Throw them in jail and set up work camps and make them work it off. Then they will think twice before they break the law.
