HAMPTON – The Shawn Dietz Campaign announced a significant endorsement Thursday morning.

Former Arkansas Governor, 2008 Iowa Caucus winner, and Fox News television and syndicated radio host, Mike Huckabee has announced his only legislative endorsement so far in the State of Iowa for Senate District 27 Republican, Shawn Dietz. The Huckabee endorsement comes as the third such announcement for Dietz from prominent national Republicans as Texas Governor Rick Perry, and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul have both previously announced their support for the former Hampton mayor’s bid for the State Senate.

“I’ve spent a lot of time in Iowa dating back to my 2008 caucus victory there, and having learned about Shawn Dietz’s message of creating a culture of life and opportunity, I’m excited to see my friends in north Iowa have an opportunity to elect a State Senator who is actively and enthusiastically pursuing the goals of defining life at conception, standing up for true religious liberty, and developing a simpler, fairer tax system,” said Huckabee in his announcement. “I’m proud to stand with Shawn, and I’m happy to offer my endorsement to his campaign as he works to win this seat in the Iowa Senate.”

“I began following Governor Huckabee while he still held office in Arakansas, and of course through the 2008 Iowa Caucuses,” said Dietz. “I share his passion for protecting innocent life, defending the vision of our founding fathers, and working to achieve a tax environment that is fair for all individuals. We are building a coalition of natural leaders through our campaign to represent North Iowa in the State Senate, and strong, bold leadership is something that is desperately needed in the Senate chamber.”

Dietz, the former mayor of Hampton, is facing incumbent Democrat Amanda Ragan in the November election for the District 27 Senate seat.
