WATERLOO – On Sunday June 22, 2014 Officers with the Waterloo Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team took a subject into custody during a weapons investigation.

Around 12:40 AM VCAT Officers made contact with twenty-six-year-old Ezekiel Cortez Phillips Jr. of Cedar Rapids and twenty-three-year-old Tyranius Montrice Nelson of Iowa City. Officers approached the subjects in the area of Lafayette St and E. 4th Street reference a loud car stereo.

During the investigation, officers observed Nelson making suspicious movements inside the vehicle. Officers also observed an open bottle of liquor at that time. Upon a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded .38 Special Revolver concealed in the center console of the vehicle. Officers later located a quantity of marijuana concealed on Nelson’s person.

Phillips was charged with carrying weapons and Nelson was charged with possession of marijuana during the investigation. Both suspects were booked into the Black Hawk County Jail.
