MASON CITY – Things are looking up for the little coffee shop in the commons of the Mason City Public Library.

The coffee shop, called Javaworks, has been operated by clients from North Iowa Vocational Center for several months. At a recent library board meeting, NIVC Director Sherry Becker told the board that she is pleased with the progress made at the coffee shop and that business has improved. She told the board that NIVC is committed to a long term successful partnership with the library.

One regular patron who happened to be in the library last week gave the coffee shop a rave review.

“NIVC operates a fantastic snack bar here,” said Todd Blodgett, who said he often buys iced tea and cookies during his frequent visits to the public library. “Not only is this of great benefit to library patrons and the general public, but the program provides opportunities for NIVC clients to learn and master job skills, which enables them to feel good about themselves. These young people are now productive, contributing members of society. What NIVC does here is really a ‘Win/Win’ deal for everyone,” Mr. Blodgett told NIT.

My grandsons love going being able to get something to drink and a snack while we play a game of chess or sorry! I think it is a great asset to library!
