Women’s BB: No. 13 Iowa State prepares for West Virginia

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES, Iowa – The No. 13 Iowa State women’s basketball team (14-1, 3-1 Big 12) takes on West Virginia (13-2, 3-1 Big 12) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. The game marks just the fourth meeting between the two teams.

Iowa State sits at 13th in the latest RPI rankings after a 14-1 start to the season. Iowa State is the highest rated team in the Big 12.

The Cyclones dropped two spots to No. 13 in the AP Poll after downing Texas Tech but falling to No. 15 Oklahoma State at home. The Cyclones also fell two places to No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches poll. This is the 20th-straight time Iowa State has been ranked in the AP or USA Today polls.

This is the fourth overall meeting between the Cyclones and Mountaineers. WVU holds a 1-2 edge of the three games played. Last season, WVU and Iowa State split, with Iowa State taking a 53-49 win at West Virginia on Jan. 20 and WVU downing the Cyclones at home 66-68.

Iowa State is one of just three school in Division I ranking in the top-32 in scoring offense (79.1 ppg) and scoring defense (57.7 ppg), joining Connecticut and Maryland.

Hallie Christofferson is averaging 21.0 points per game, which ranks second in the Big 12 and in the top-25 nationally. Christofferson is knocking down 51.2 percent from the field and grabbing 7.9 rebounds per game, which both rank in the top-10 in the league.
