MASON CITY – Mason City councilwoman Janet Solberg leveled what amounted to a death threat accusation against former Mason City councilman Max Weaver on Friday.
Solberg, mired in what many believe is a losing city council race against challenger Matt Marquardt, lashed out at Mr. Weaver in a public Facebook post Friday, telling her Facebook “friends” that day that “Max threatened to put a bullet in my head.”
Soon, several of Mrs. Solberg’s Facebook “friends” began to show support for Mr. Weaver. Within a few hours, Mrs. Solberg had removed the Facebook post, but not before citizens took electronic screenshots of Mrs. Solberg’s Facebook page and sent them to NIT.
One of Mrs. Solberg’s Facebook “friends” told NIT Saturday that “I responded (to Janet Solberg) and said anybody who knew Max would know he was not a violent person. Solberg responded saying I was not concerned with our citizens safety. Then she mentioned Columbine and all the school shootings.”
Mrs. Solberg started her attack on Mr. Weaver by posting a “reminder” about a confrontation where Second Ward Councilman Travis Hickey had approached Mr. Weaver after a city council meeting in 2011 and invaded Mr. Weaver’s personal space. A police officer escorted Mr. Hickey away from Mr. Weaver.

If you read Skipper’s story on the confrontation, it seems that Max didn’t threaten Hickey, he said something that I took as a joke, but, even if Max was serious, he stated, ONE of US might get a bullet in the head. He didn’t say he was going to put a bullet in anyone’s head. He was making an observation that wasn’t in great taste. Get over it.

Janet S. wants poor people to purchase insurance because she’s jut looking out for them. I mean it would be nice if they could be forced to buy from Janet but any insurer will do. She’s only concerned about poor people getting their stuff stolen, that’s all. She wants to use local government to force people to buy products they might not need because she says so.
Well, don’t be throwing benefits for the stupid renters who lose everything in fires and can’t replace their stuff because they didn’t have renter’s insurance. And don’t be feeling sorry for the ones in this town who have been sued recently by the homeowners’ insurance companies for the damages incurred to the structures by those fires. Just how are they going to repay those damages? If they are that short-sighted and naive, let them suffer paying house payments for the rest of their lives for structures that they don’t own and will never be allowed to live in again. Sometimes stupid is as stupid doesn’t do.
@Katie-I hear you but, suing those people who can’t afford or won’t pay for renters insurance (it is pretty cheap) is kind of a waste of time. Most of them live on some type of welfare and if they had anything to sue for they wouldn’t be renting. It seems to me that any landlord that was worth his salt would keep some type of insurance of their own on the home to protect their investment. Just saying.
The homeowners DO have insurance and it is THEIR insurance companies who are using the renters for the damages they caused. So if you don’t want to get sued by a big homeowner insurance company, get your a$$ covered by renter’s insurance in case you do something careless and cause damage to the structure you are renting. They will put a lien against you and you won’t be able to buy anything until that lien is paid.

The police department has nothing to do with giving concealed carry permits. That is done through the sheriffs department. Get your facts straight because when you don’t you sound like an idiot.

We all know Janet Solberg is litigious so if someone threatened her she would have sued them and we would all have known about it. It’s called conflict of interest. This town seems to have a problem understanding what that is.
Did she get preferential treatment from the City of Mason City by getting new insurance business from them after she was elected? That might be a conflict of interest if there were no bids taken and if hers was not the lowest bid for the same product. If she got more business just because she became more well-known in the community after she was elected, it’s pretty hard to prove conflict of interest unless you have proof she got a big account quid pro quo for a vote. And it’s going to be darned hard to find anyone to serve on a city council who can’t be caught up in some type of conflict of interest if someone is determined to get a vote one way or another. Anyone can be smeared or threatened to be smeared if you try hard enough. This place does it on a daily basis.
I hope and pray the people of Mason City vote her and the rest of the “dirty rat pack” out. Come on Mason City take out the trash. If you haven’t truth on your side resort to lying. This woman is a LIER no doubt about it.

…I guess I am not understanding something here. If Max had made such a threat, would he not have been arrested? If he didn’t make such a threat, wouldn’t we have seen a lawsuit from Max, for libel or slander? I think there is more to this story than we are being told…or maybe “less”!

Yes he did, in City Hall on the first floor in front of City Employees and City Administrator Brent Trout. We put extra police force on at the Council meetings and filed a report with the Mason City PD. I watched over my shoulder for weeks. Max was very serious when he pointed his finger at me and told me that. Travis was threatened too. If you don’t believe me, the police records are public knowledge….or ask Mr Trout. My husband feared for my life everyday as well as I did.
Anyone can send a e-mail saying anything they want. Do you people really believe if there was anything there that she or Hickey wouldn’t have filed charges? If there is a police report it mean that they looked at it and said there was nothing there to charge him with. Probably another one of her made up story’s to try to get sympathy. Max is way to smart to give them a opening like that. At least this is my opinion.

I would think if Solberg were threatened as she reports, the police would have arrested Max or banned him from being near her. This reportedly happened a few years back and we never heard about it. Now it is being used for political purposes. She is on her way out and not happy about it.
This bunch has had there years of glory. They should be ashamed…….. the city is in worse shape than ever. As Seniors many of us are afraid to go out after dark. I’ve received canned responses from city hall and none ever from Soberg even though our questions were respectful. She and the others had their own agendas that did not include the general public.

What I think is more important than anything, Her own ‘friends’ on facebook were commenting how they were supporting Max Weaver. Just goes to show you can be friends and not agree on everything! That is who it works in the “real” world
