Op-ed by Peter Children –

The collaborated fairy tale that was published in today’s Globe was misplaced. It was scheduled to be slotted with the cartoon section. What do I think…you ask? I think there are enough “buzz” words in that bedtime story to mow the lawn with. This is top shelf arrogance; high grade fertilizer they want to cover you with.

These four people want you to think there are manufacturing facilities located in this community that they brought here….but don’t look for those because they do not exist. They tried to hood-wink you into believing there was going to be a new 96 room Hilton Hotel built in a parking lot…..that talk went directly into the toilet with the rest of the crap these people are shoveling down your throat.

Nowhere in this dangerous message does it mention that the leader of this band of outlaws has put it on the street that he intends to skip the debates. Ask yourself why he would do that. The answer is simple, he is allergic to the truth….he can’t handle the questions that will come from the audience.

I think the people of this community know the real truth, and the real truth is that they do not want to face the public.

  1. THE COWARDS WILL NOT DEBATE!!! Or even have a public forum. They say their “fantastic” record speaks for itself. More of their elitist bullshit! The “Rat Pack” does not care what is fair, honest, tradition or what the voting public wants. VOTE THESE BUMS OUT!

  2. They don’t let her leave the house!

She does not think rational any more so they ordered her in.

And she says she’s NOT for Crookmeyer. HuH.

  3. Debates will be a waste of time for Matt and Max because all they want to do is dwell on the past. They have no idea how to move this city forward. Max spends all his time at his meetings talking about old issues that are over and done. People are tired of that and the negativity. If they go into attack mode at debates, it’s all over.

    1. Two debates coming up, one Saturday and one Monday. Why don’t you attend and see for yourself how we all do?

    2. I think if Bookmeyer is a no show, it should be all over for him. He is an elected public official and the majority of the people would like to hear him in a debate and/or a question & answer session. What reason would he have for not attending, what is he hiding from? Is he affraid of a “hillbillies” question that he may have no answer for? Maybe he finally got a clue and realized that he should be ashamed of most of his actions for the last four years.

  4. For the letter “Our Turn” to be published today lacked respect and decency for Mr. Foster and his family. Yes he is a candidate at Large, but he was a former council member and served at the same time Scott did, where was the respect today to show up and give support to a man that has served on the council? Isn’t the Mayor the Mayor all the time and shouldn’t he be the leader and know when to lay down the campaign for today and show support for a man that served on the council as he lost his wife? I guess Decency is not part of the 3 D’s. Today should have been a day about a community coming together to show support for a family who lost a loved one, not about bashing anyone. Today is an embarrassment for the Bookmeyer campaign and the incumbent’s that allowed a letter of that nature to printed at all let alone on a day like today…..

  5. Well reading the blogs, watching the interviews on Globe.com I have one bit of advice on this election.
The mayor was less than upbeat, positive or exuded much confidence from his interview. This letter in the paper today is another feable attempt to try and persuade the few remaining voters that the sitting Mayor is not who he is portrayed to be.
    I offer this simple rhetoric.
The mayor is an elitist, doesn’t really care about the majority of Mason City’s citizens and has some real identity crisis on his hands that in no way can “HE” himself get out of.
Most politicians could have a debate (which for some reason we are not having one this year) go out in public and smile and most importantly look you in the eyes and tell you he wants what is best for Mason City. The interview today I watched online his eyes darted around a lot and he seemed rather unsure of himself. No strong conviction or passion.
For these reasons I will vote for Max. Max has character and passion and Mr. Bookmeyer just lost the election today.

  6. Is Bookmeyer too much of a chicken shit to debate in public? He won’t have Trout to “cover” for him. After all, isn’t Trout his personal bodyguard?

    1. If Matt wins I wonder if Bookmeyer will try to talk Brent into going after Matt again. Like he did at the library. I just hope Brent has the safety switched on, guns are dangerous.

  7. Keep in mind I am not running for office, I am not looking for votes. I write with emphases to drive my point across. I am only writing the truth; what’s happening with the parking lot hotel? Where are the manufacturing facilities? You want me to say nice things about these people, is thst what you want? Jesus walked on water, I just write the truth…..no miracles in my bag.

        1. I know some realtors who would love to help you find some empty buildings for those factories. But I’m sure you don’t want to move them here as long as Eric Bookmeyer is our mayor because that might make him look good. Is that why you do business in China? Will you move your factories here if Matt and Max get elected to make them look like apple pie ala mode? Or would that promise be like the Hilton in the parking lot? 🙂

          1. Katie, I am not speaking for Peter nor do I know his situation. But the reason people do not manufacture in Iowa or the US is the tax burden from the State of Iowa and the Feds. Until that burden changes, they will locate elsewhere to be able to compete. Until we understand that fact, manufacturing in the US will continue to decline.

          2. Gee. No one was willing to accept tax burdens as an excuse for wealthy Mitt Romney keeping his assets offshore during the last election, but we’re supposed to give Peat a pass? Ya, right. Buy American!!!

    1. And what a shame it is that you aren’t running for office. Oh, that’s right, you’re too old to run, I forgot. You claimed you write with emphases to drive your point across, I claim you write because you are getting paid to do it. Which one of us is correct?

On a brighter note….it’s nice to see you spelled your last name correctly this time around, with the exception of not capitalizing the “c”.

      1. You think Peat gets paid to write these op-eds? I kind of wondered if it might not be the other way around. I always wondered if Peat might not be a silent partner or financial backer of NIT. After all, he says his money is here. So, Peat, are you creating any jobs in Mason. City?

  8. I made up my mind a while ago about the mayor, not impressed to say the least. What is suprizing is who is aligning with him this election, candidates, certain members of the media, etc., I hope these people realize if he falls, you are going down with him. People aren’t going to forget this. At least I hope they don’t.

  9. If people are so ignorant as to not vote for someone because of what Peter Children writes is a looney as Eric Bookmeyer.

Not all people know these things about it Eric. It is paramount the word get’s to them. If Peter is the one to do it so be it.

Peter isn’t making this up for goodness sakes! Blame the sole proprietor, the owner of the unfortunate doings of Mayor Bookmeyer! Which by the way has had his share of bad mouthing about others since I’ve known him.

Continue shining the light for us Peter and anyone who can knock the sense into the believers in Bookmeyer.

WHY would a current Mayor SKIP election DEBATES?
Ask yourself that one question and then vote Max.

  10. Peter,
I am supporting Max during this election, but honestly, it’s time you back off a bit before you turn voters against Max from your continued attacks on Bookmeyer. You have many valid points and concerns, but if you continue this barrage until election day, people like myself may find it hard to support some of your editorials. It’s ok to honestly point out the facts as we all need to be aware, but to consistently bombard may send the wrong message. Let the voters decide based on our democracy, not on the slandering/vicious attacks of an individual. There’s enough of that in our country everyday!!

    1. I agree with your observation and comments. I too will be voting for all the new faces but Peter’s comments are getting old, and occasionally over the top. I hope he doesn’t turn voters off to good candidates and hand the election over to the current powers to be. Carl Grover has learned how to accomplish the same ends masterfully, with style and respectability!

  11. I watched the “Interviews” on the GLOB site and can tell you that Hickey just confirmed all of my suspicions about him. All he did was try to take credit for all of the things that were started before he came along. He sounded just like the mayor who is the biggest con man I have ever heard. Of course there will be sheeple who are still drinking the KoolAid that will think he did well. Jodi did an excellent job of presenting her views and opinions and my opinion of her has just improved and that was hard to believe. I really think she addressed the concerns of the people and will do a excellent job of representing ALL of the people. It is sure easy to see why the establishment does not want a head to head debate. The challengers would cut them to pieces and they know that.
