MASON CITY – Reports of a vicious dog attack in Mason City are coming to the NIT newsroom this evening.

According to a source, a woman was walking a dog at the north side of the footbridge near the Mason City library at Second Street SE and North Connecticut Avenue when two dogs attacked the woman and her small dog.  One of the attacking dogs was said to be a Great Dane.

The source indicated the woman was bitten severely and “could have been killed” if a mail carrier had not sprayed the dog with mace.

“The woman’s screams coud be heard for blocks.”

It was said the woman even knew the attacking dogs as they lived near her home.  NIT was also told that police were searching for the runaway dogs.  The latest word to our newsroom was that the dogs were outside a nearby church and people were too afraid to come outside because of them.

There was no immediate word on how badly the woman was injured or what became of the attacking dogs.

More on this developing story as information is made available.

  1. If this was a pitbul it would be so much worse. This does not even give you both breeds. Would not have trouble telling the public if it was a pit.

    1. @Dee Dee-Exactly. Dog owners are responsible for their animals. Any dog is capable of attacking when it senses fear or misreads it as aggression. It is up to the owners to keep the dog under control. We make people take gun training to get a hunting license or carry permit, but allow any idiot to own a dog.

  2. OHhhh here we go again with the vicious dog reports. For F’ sake. Here’s a better idea LETS BAN IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS INSTEAD!!

    1. You know what we really should do….BAN FREEDOM. Then the left will have nothing left to bitch about.

Now, what someone other than a thoughtless individual SHOULD be saying is…my thoughts and prayers go out to this woman and hope that she is OK.
