MASON CITY – A Mason City man frequently in jail found himself there again last week.

Jeffrey John Hargis, 44, was arrested by Mason City police on April 24th on a valid warrant for a fifth degree theft charge from an incident on March 23rd. Hargis plead not guilty and paid a $300.00 bond and was released.  He faces a hearing on May 23rd.

Hargis was found guilty of third degree theft in March after a February 18th incident where he was charged by Mason City police.  He was sentenced to a year probation and 30 days in jail.  A $625.00 fine was thrown out, but he owes the court $395.55 in fees in that case.

Hargis has been chased by Mason City police for stealing in the past, and has numerous convictions including assault causing bodily injury as well as eluding law enforcement.  He plead guilty to third degree theft in December; Judge Colleen Weiland threw out a $625.oo fine and allowed Hargis to serve 14 days with work release.

An ex of Hargis told NIT recently that he owes her over $11,000 in child support.

On Friday evening, Hargis wrote on his Facebook page “Feeling blessed today. And sun-kissed. Awesome day.”

  1. This guy came from a great family, and I knew all of them. What the hell happened, Jeff? Accept those sun-kissed blessings and turn them towards others instead of the path you have taken. It’s time to straighten out your life. Stop hurting others with your bad behavior. Turn into a white sheep and get back into your fold.
