Coach charged with driving 90 mph

TORONTO, March 6 (UPI) — A Toronto high school coach has been charged with driving 90 mph while transporting 12 members of his basketball team to a Windsor tournament, police said.

Paul Melnik of Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School was stopped by Ontario provincial police after he was clocked driving 31 mph over the speed limit on Highway 401, the Toronto Star reported.

Constable Aaron McPhail said Melnik received a speeding ticket along with a ticket for not having the proper license for transporting more than 10 passengers.

Melnik refused to discuss the incident when reached by phone on Tuesday, the Star said.

A spokesman for the Toronto Catholic District School Board said the board is investigating the matter.
