LUBBOCK, Texas – The Iowa State men’s basketball team (13-5 overall, 3-2 Big 12) fell to Texas Tech (9-8 overall, 2-4 Big 12) by a score of 56-51 in Lubbock on Wednesday night. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak in Big 12 conference play for the Cyclones.
With the Red Raiders leading, 43-41 with 5:35 to play in the game, senior point guard Korie Lucious connected on two three-pointers in just over a minute and a half. The second trey from Lucious gave the Cyclones a 47-46 lead with 4:02 remaining, but Texas Tech would answer with back-to-back baskets by Jordan Tolbert and Josh Gray.
Texas Tech gained a 52-49 advantage with 1:26 to go in the game with a pair for Josh Gray free throws. Will Clyburn answered with a much-needed basket for the Cyclones with just under a minute remaining. However, Gray would get would score a basket with 36 seconds left and the Red Raiders would hold on to get the 56-51 victory.
The Cyclones were lead offensively by Clyburn, with 12 points, and Lucious, who scored 11. Clyburn also had 10 rebounds on the night, for his fourth double-double of the season. Iowa State shot just 35.3 percent from the field, including a 6-23 night from behind the arc. Josh Gray had a game-high 16 points for Texas Tech.
The Cyclones will be back in action Saturday at Hilton Coliseum to take on No. 11 Kansas State at 12:45 p.m. CST.
