SOCCER: Iowa State Falls To Oklahoma 3-0 In Season Finale

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State soccer team closed out its 2012 season with a 3-0 loss to Oklahoma Friday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The Cyclones finished their season with their first 10-win campaign since 2005 and tied for the second-most goals scored in a season with 37.  Iowa State (10-10 overall, 1-7 Big 12) also set a season-attendance mark with 6,569 fans coming to see the Cyclones in 2012.

Iowa State fell behind 2:15 into match when Annalisa Hall scored off an assist from Renae Cuellar.  The Cyclones could not limit the damage in the first half, as Oklahoma (7-8-4 overall, 3-3-2 Big 12) scored its second goal with 1:18 remaining before halftime.  Oklahoma’s Samantha Howell scored the second goal and Zoe Dickson provided the assist. The Sooners took their 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Cyclones turned up the pressure in the second half but could not find the back of the net.  The Sooners put the match out of reach when Cuellar scored her 12th goal of the season at the 59:35 mark off an assist from Katharine Nutman.

Iowa State had a 16-15 shots edge in the match and the two teams were level on corner kicks with four apiece.

Sophomore Ashley Johnson led the Cyclones with a career-high five shots in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe played the full 90 minutes and recorded eight saves.  Jobe concluded her season with a mark of 7-7.

The match was also the final contest for this season’s seniors.  Iowa State honored Bridget Grandas, Megan Longobardi, Amanda Woelfel, Natalie Foulk and Kelsey Calvert prior to the match.
