Obit: Arlene J. Winkowitsch, 75

Arlene J. Winkowitsch, 75, of Dumont, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Dumont Wellness Center.

Arlene was born September 8, 1936, on a farm near Brooks, Minnesota to James and Inga (Johnson) Parsley. She attended country school. Her first job was as a housekeeper and cook.

Arlene married Gerald Bakke in 1956 in Crookston, Minnesota and to this union four children were born, Terry, Calvin, Diane and Michael. Russell Winkowitsch was her second husband and they had a son Travis. Arlene always worked outside the home. She worked for Jiffy Fry in Crookston, Minnesota, owned and operated Wink’s Bar in Aredale, tended bar at the Horseshoe in Dumont, and was a cook’s aide at the Dumont Nursing Home, retiring in 2007. Arlene enjoyed her grandchildren, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, playing Bingo and the slots, and her cat Lupe.

She is survived by: two daughters; Terry (Virgil) Arends, Dumont, IA., Diane (Jerry) Hepola, Minneapolis, MN., three sons; Calvin (Amy) Bakke, Minneapolis, MN., Michael Bakke, Ham Lake, MN., and Travis (Jamie) Winkowitsch, Dumont, IA., four sisters; Virginia Oman, Duluth, MN., Ruth Bakken, Fosston, MN., Judy Shomo, Grand Forks, ND, and Maurina Stoltman, East Grand Forks, MN., five grandchildren; Leann (Jim) Aukes, Jamie (Zach) Harken, Sara (Scott) Jalowitz, Ben Winkowitsch, Hannah Winkowitsch, and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Bakke, sisters-in-law; Joyce Bakke, Mamie (Paul) Rottink, Irene Winkowitsch, Beverly (Robert) Boyd, Janet (Don) Bangs, brothers-in-laws; Jim Winkowitsch and Cliff (Lila) Winkowitsch, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Daisy, brothers Milo and Roy and her husbands, Jerry and Russ. At her request, Arlene will be cremated with burial in Presbyterian Cemetery, Brooks, Minnesota, alongside much of the family. Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice.
