NIACC baseball tops ranked teams in Florida

VERO BEACH, Fla. – NIACC baseball started its spring break trip with 14 runs and a pair of wins against ranked opponents on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans (4-2) started with a 7-1 win over the ninth-ranked school in NJCAA Division III, Massasoit Community College (MA).  Joey Reed (Fr., Lindstrom, MN) had eight strikeouts in six innings of work and combined with pitcher Kyle Moses (So., Saint Angsar, IA) to allow only two hits.  The win brought Reed’s record this season to 1-2.

NIACC broke the game open in the fifth with a five runs.  The Trojans had six hits and reached on five errors.

The Trojans followed up with a 7-5 win over Division II’s No. 7 UCONN – Avery Point.  Tyler Peterson (So., Eden Prairie, MN) had three RBI with a homerun and a double.  The homerun was Peterson’s second of the year.

Ryan Voves (Fr., Mason City, IA) also had two hits.  The Trojans had six hits, and scored two runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

On the mound, Lucas Bakker (Fr., Brisbane, Australia) struck out six in six innings of work while allowing three runs.  He is 3-0 so far this season.

NIACC will face the Ontario Blue Jays tomorrow.  The Blue Jays are a 17-and-under club team from Canada.
