MASON CITY – At approximately 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon October 22, 2011, the Mason City Police Department was called to an accident on Highway 122 and Thrush Avenue.
Nicole Tharp, owner of a silver Pontiac who was a passenger when the accident took place, described what happened.
“We stopped, but I just did not see anything coming,” Tharp said.
Her vehicle spun around and was facing north when it came to a stop. Tharp was shaken up, but had no injuries. There was also a child in the car and a male driver. Tharp’s father was at the scene. He was helping to transfer their belongings to another vehicle. Tharp’s car was towed by Miller Towing.
Teri Flugge, driver of a maroon Nissan X-Terra, was heading east when the accident happened.
“I hit the breaks, skidded for a bit, but just couldn’t stop in time. Nicole right away took full responsibility,” she said.
Flugge’s husband was there checking out the damage, which was mostly to the front of the vehicle.
Scott Miller, driver of the third vehicle involved, was setting at the stop sign and saw the whole thing. “I just kept saying, ‘stop, stop, stop.’ The red car didn’t have a chance.”
As the Pontiac slid around, it hit the driver’s front panel and bumper of Miller’s black Chevy truck. “At least everybody was okay,” Miller said, with concern.
