From Rep. Sharon Steckman
Today, with collaboration on both sides in the House and the Senate, a compromise was reached on Senate File 209. Among other items, the bill includes expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit to 10%, allowing the state to pay overdue bills for indigent defense, and encouraging small businesses to invest and expand their operations. It will also provide $5.9 million to grow Iowa’s skilled workforce at local community colleges while maintaining safety in Iowa prisons, and restores the almost $300,000 cut to NIACC this winter. Good news for North Iowa. It felt good to vote for a bill that was truly a collaborative effort!
