Rep. Sharon Steckman joins calls for special session to override governor’s vetoes

MASON CITY – Democratic Representative Sharon Steckman is calling on the legislature she serves in to meet in a special session and over-ride the vetoes handed down last week by Governor Terry Branstad.

“Last week, Governor Branstad vetoed school funding. I will be signing a petition calling for a special session of the Iowa Legislature to override the Governor’s veto and make educating Iowa students a top priority.

The $56 million in k-12 school funding was a compromise reached by lawmakers after the House Majority broke the law and refused to set school funding for over a year and a half. I strongly disagree with the Governor’s veto.

I have heard from parents, teachers, and school leaders, and many other interested citizens in Iowa. They have all told me that inadequate school funding will lead to larger class sizes, fewer good teachers, and higher property taxes. The State of Iowa has over $1 billion in surplus and reserves so we certainly have funds available to support our children and provide a strong, quality education to all.

Educating our kids has to be the top priority in Iowa. They are the future of Iowa and our economy depends on it. I’m hopeful we can take quick action, and the House Majority will join us, to avoid cutbacks and end the uncertainty for local schools with a special session.”

It’s so laughable a week after the schools cry for more money. They put an add in the paper looking for an assistant to the assistant vice principal position responsible for nothing and teaching no one !!!

Yep, they need one of those to make coffee for the others.

The liberals won’t like it but Branstad is correct. Short term money should never be used in this manner. He made it perfectly clear all year but the spendthrift Democrats tried to sneak it through. It is about time the schools learned how to manage their business in the right way. Start by getting rid of a lot of top managers and let the teachers teach. Less children=less money needed. What is so hard about that for the over educated educators to understand.

As Trump would say – We cannot afford your fat cat wages and benefits at present – what the people want is a 30% reduction in public servant wages and benefits for all public servants making more than 40k per year. That goes for city state and All federal dead beats. Tell the truth like Trump and our economy will grow unlike Greece loaded with public servant DEBT.. Cry of th P S union MORE MORE MORE !

LOL Trump

Branstad 4 President !!

Democrat in action

Smartest thing the Branstad has done !! Keep up the good work !!
