MASON CITY – John and Mary Pappajohn gave a $50,000 gift to the NIACC Foundation in honor of NIACC Vice President Jamie Zanios upon his retirement. Zanios retired from his position as NIACC Vice President of Institutional Advancement and the Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center on December 31, 2014.

“I was humbled and flattered by the establishment of a scholarship in my name by John and Mary Pappajohn. It left me speechless when I was made aware of it the first time on a video at a retirement celebration. I am thrilled and honored by this gift to the Foundation that will go on giving back for generations of students to come. I can’t thank John and Mary enough for their generosity and this wonderful gift.” said Zanios.

The $50,000 endowment will form the Jamie T. Zanios Entrepreneurship Scholarship and will assist students studying in the areas of entrepreneurship or business. Starting this fall, two scholarships will be made available for students who are interested in owning their own business through a career program or those who are pursuing a two year associate’s degree. In addition, $500 will be used to assist non-traditional students with unique needs, such as tuition support to learn a bookkeeping program or other business support type classes through the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center.

“The Pappajohn’s gift is such a wonderful tribute to Jamie’s leadership and work for the past eleven years at the College,” said NIACC President Steve Schulz. Schulz continued, “NIACC students will benefit from this gift forever because of John, Mary and Jamie’s friendship and mutual passion for entrepreneurship in their hometown.”

How about they just pay back the city for all the taxes wasted on this waste.

Care to expand on that? As far as I can tell, the center helps struggling businesses and emerging businesses to become more of a viable part of the community.

Tell me how many they helped last year. Come on, lets see if you know after shooting off your mouth.

That is what I was asking you. Apparently you know so why don’t you tell us?

@bodacious-You are the one with the big mouth, so back up what you say. Of course you lie so much no one would believe you anyway. Even Brent Trout has said it was a waste of money. No go back to liberal school and learn to lie some more.

Once again, when you are called on to provide proof of your allegations, you resort to name calling. Guess you answered my question. You have no facts just garbage that your small mind creates.

@bodacious-It is not a name but a accurate description of you. Put up or shut up. You shot off your mouth now back it up or shut up. You can’t back it up because you don’t know how and you know you are wrong again. You should be getting used to it as it is a way of life for someone like you.

Originally I asked you a question because I didn’t know why you were bashing the Pappajohns. I wanted to know. I wasn’t looking for a fight, I just wanted information. Now, I really don’t care because obviously you have no information.

I am not bashing the Pappajohns at all, although I guess I can see where you might think so. My comment was at the city for wasting our tax dollars on a private business.
