MASON CITY – The Mason City Police Department held its 4th Annual “Runnin with the Law” Triathlon on Saturday, June 16 at the Family Aquatic Center on Birch Drive.
The triathlon included a 250 Meter Swim, 10 mile bike ride and a 3 mile run. Individuals and teams competed in the race.

The event is an annual fund raiser for the Mason City Police Department Unit 18. The funds generated from the event help sponsor Unit 18 community events including College Scholarships, Cops for Kids at Christmas, Youth Sports teams and the Special Olympics.
All registered participants received a T-shirt, bag and entry in a drawing for special prizes after the race.
Medals were awarded for 1st to 3rd place finishers for both male and females in all age groups.
There were were over a dozen teams that participated in the event.
I did this for the first time last Saturday and I had a great time doing it. The Officers and volunteers that helped with the bike route and the run were great. They cheered me on and that gave me the little me I needed to finish, because I didn’t think I could have without them. Just knowing they were there and supporting my efforts was great. I agree First Timer. The support and energy they had helped me finish that 10 mile bike ride. And trust me I needed it.
Way to go MCPD! I think that our officers and our community need to go hand in hand.
This is a great event put on by the Mason City Police Department. It should show the community that the MCPD cares about the future and health of Mason City children with all proceeds going to support youth activities. With all the negative words lately about MCPD it would have been nice to see more citizens out to supporting this event and meet some of the hard working Officers of the MCPD.
