Robert in not Wobert, etc. and many more articulation and language disorders… And, I put in 12 hours a day and graduate school in the summer, to keep up on the latest applications…

I know you are retired and just don’t get it.

@Blisterpack, as another former teacher, i agree with what you saying. When I went to college, the cost was rather low for my schooling. Now, a good college education, costs somewhere between $60,000-100,000. That is what a decent house costs today. When you add in the cost of continuing education that is REQUIRED by the state, a teaching certificate is quite costly. Most of the people who complain about the ‘high’ salaries of teachers, have no idea what the job entails. And they don’t care.

What they do see is someone who is trying to make a difference in the lives of young people. And every year, it becomes more and more difficult to do so. Class sizes increase, yearly budgets for classroom materials decrease, insurance costs go up and the demands on the teacher’s time increase. We need to re-vamp the education system so that all students have an education that will help them to survive in a world that is constantly changing. That, in itself, is a monumental task.

I meant to say what they don’t see is someone trying to make a difference. Most of the detractor’s couldn’t handle the job and would find some excuse to blame someone else for their own failures. I, for one, know that I failed some of the kids I taught. It hurts, but at least I tried. And I would do it again. I never taught for the money. I know that most teachers don’t.

bodacious & Blisterpak, well stated by both of you.

I taught at a Community College (Technical) for 8 years in the 90’s.
Toughest job that I loved.
Really enjoyed working with those young people.

I make more money in the private sector, but nothing compares with the satisfaction that I used to get when I would see a students face light up with understanding.

It is not unusual for Unions to negotiate yearly. I believe that it is important for the teachers to be paid a decent wage. How do we attract the best if we are on the low end of the wage scale.

I have never understood why people bitch about teachers salaries at all. It another way to keep our kids in Mason City after they graduate from college. A decent teaching job….And, the ability to pay off the student loans…. Or would u rather they learn how to say ” Would u like fries with…

found an oops…. IT’S…..

I don’t get why more people don’t understand if you pay people in your community better, you’ll likely do better as well since the local economy will perk up and people will want to live there.

If you drive down the cost of labor soon the only businesses coming here will be the ones that only pay low wages.

Just think what we could do if everyone stopped paying for upgraded TV content and spent that money on improving things.

@Mediator-there is such a thing as driving down cost of labor and then there is such a thing as overpayment based on performance. These people have top salary’s, the best benefits money can buy (our money by the way) and do a substandard job on performance. Then of course we have all the administration staff that is just grossly overpaid for what they do. They have the best part time jobs in the country and just want more an more. If there are low paid teachers take it away from the…

@Blisterpak-Bull. We pay as well as anyone and they still leave and always will until we get some decent jobs in the area.

Whoa Nellie….. You may be out of touch with what the pay scales are today and the fact that you have to have an education to teach. And, as a former teacher, I resent that we do substandard performance. I don’t deny that there have been poor teachers over time. But that is no different than poor factory workers, or doctor’s, nurses, hamburger pushers. Not everyone has the same attitude or motivation.

The kids I taught as a Speech therapist are no longer stuttering, speak an r instead…

@Blister-You are correct that all teachers are not bad but the unions protect them no matter what type of teacher they are. When you combine their salary’s with the administrator’s it is getting to be more than the taxpayer can stand. They can not expect a wage increase every year when the people paying for the increase go year after tear after year without getting one. That is the problem with unions, they want their and to hell with the rest of the people that have to pay for it.

SO did I read something wrong last week that Micich said MC was going to have to cut 2.2 million from its budget??? She said it hurts to have to cut and as we know janitor, office workers, bus drivers and paras will be getting the big Micich shoved up where the sun doesn’t shine again. Freeze all salaries for 1 year and see what happens. Madison School would be a great child/adult daycare so try to sell it. START CUTTNG THE FAT AND LAZY OUT OF THE SYSTEM. COMBINE MORE JOBS IN YOUR SYSTEM

This spineless board simply wants to be known as the one that built the Cadillac schools and got the highest pay for its teachers in the state. They’re all cowards and will be asking for more next year.

Do they get to negotiate every single year? Enough is enough. The well is dry. There are less and less people in Mason City to pay for this crap. It is time to bring them back to the real world the rest of us live in.

If the well’s not dry enough to stop arresting people for pot then the well AIN’T DRY!

Peter, you are a bigot.

What would they do out in the REAL world ?

And what is the “real world?” The Jewish controlled one?

Keep it up and you will have the bikers and the Jewish people after you. pretty soon you won’t even be able to hide in a basement or the dirt dugout you are building.
