MASON CITY – A Mason City woman accused of dealing meth was arrested in the Cultural Crescent area Monday.

Brittnie Lee Jackson, age 23 of Mason City, was picked up by Cerro Gordo deputies at the 300 block of 2nd Street NE at about 4:30 PM on a number of warrants related to charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and drug tax stamp violations. All four charges are felonies. The charges were brought February 7th by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and an arrest warrant was immediately issued.

Jackson is being held on $40,000 cash-only bond at this time as she awaits a February 21, 2014 court date. She is also facing another misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana filed against her last month. She was free on bond awaiting a March 25, 2014 jury trial.

Anyone else notice that her neck is as wide as her head! Meth will do that to you.

The current Mayor did not give the area known as the Cultural Crescent its name. That name was used by Jack Leaman, City Planner, over 20 years ago.

Who gives a shit anyways? I know I don’t personally. Its sounds ridiculous.

“it”*

That is strange. I have lived here a lot longer than that and when our mayor said it was the first time I ever heard it. I think you are making that up.

Matt, that is the best definition of the cultural crescent that I have heard to date. I believe you are correct as I remember from years ago when the downtown area was a vibrant business area booming with stores and opportunities they called the downtown area the cultural Crescent. Thank you for your insight and knowledge on the subject.

@Viking-I can remember when I was a kid our family used to go uptown on Federal Ave. on a Friday night and almost everyone in town would be there. It was like a big social event every night. People would go in and out of the stores and restaurants visiting. It was a cultural crescent back then. It is NOT any more. It is full of drunks and druggers most nights.

I totally second you on that Housing Development behind Menards. How ridiculous. Those new tenants apparently haven’t smelled the acetone smell that emits from Woodharbor during the warmer months. Whomever these city planners are in this region, they need to be fired immediately. If you’re going to have a laissez-faire (anything goes) approach to development, then do away with all rules and let the people commence business as they see fit, don’t breach community planning and zoning laws just to allow special interested exceptions from time to time. That zone is commercial and should have stayed commercial.

@Philly-and, building a now hotel downtown is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. The existing hotels are just barely getting by and now the city wants to subsidize competition for them by giving away property and tax breaks. They should sure the hell of of the city. As far as the new senior home I have heard they are having a hard time filling it up. It is to far away from everything and is low income qualified only. I have heard if you have income over $3300 a month for a couple you can’t get it. It will probably go under in not to long and become another low income drug house..

@LVS-I remember that also. I grew up in the north end and my parents and I would walk uptown to go to a movie or just window shop. People were everywhere and times were good. You are correct, there is nothing to draw myself or anyone I know to the downtown area. Not even the mall. The only reason I ever go downtown is to visit my mother who lives in the manor.

@Matt-again could not agree with you more. I do not understand why our local officials give the multi-billion-dollar companies tax incentives to put big-box stores on the edge of town killing the local merchant. They should be using our local tax dollars to help the local businessman compete against these multibillion dollar companies. To me they seem to have it all backwards. In my opinion, with some work and incentives, we could bring back the downtown area to a vibrance state that it used to be. This would also help drive out the crime that occurs downtown and in that area. Why is it our local officials not see that?

@Iowa Viking-What bothers me the most is the way they award their friends with T.I.F. That is starting to catch up with them and will only get worse as time goes by. You can not defer taxes on business when you are losing business. Pretty soon there is no one paying taxes anymore and the budget goes to hell. We are already starting to see it and when you combine it with the lost taxes due to the flood buyouts it hurts even worse.

LVS-good point.

Ransoms patrons are not bigots, they are old,fat drink lots of beer and enjoy talkin some trash and are very knowledgeable in every topic that come up in their conversation. great place to learn about the government and just about everything. Keep up the good talk boys.

What the hell is cultural crescent area??

@OK-It is pretty much the down town area from the mall to 3rd street North. Our beloved mayor named it.

So, what exactly are the cultural attractions?

Music Man Square is an artificial recreation of a fictional movie. Anything else?

Oh yeah Ransom’s. I remember that place…the guys who were openly using the “N” word when that fellow first opened up his Martini Bar next door…then when so much business spilled over to Ransom’s because the Martini bar couldn’t hold anymore and all these hot chicks started coming in…then suddenly that black guy was alright in their book.

Ransom’s is an effin joke. A bunch of pissed off racist dudes hanging out and bitching about the world. And only friends with the “colored fella” when it suits their wallet, or their pecker.
