Two North Enders arrested after 9 cops give chase

MASON CITY – A man known for stealing cars lead police along with his accomplice on a drunken chase early Saturday before being stopped on the city’s South Side.

According to reports, John Daniel Murphy, age 22 of Mason City, was intoxicated as he drove through the city around midnight or just afterward on Saturday morning. Mason City police reported that an officer attempted to stop Murphy’s vehicle after a theft was reported, but Murphy attempted to flee. The vehicle was later stopped at Federal Avenue and 19th Street, where Murphy was arrested along with a passenger in the vehicle, Rachelle Lynn Clayton, age 19, also of Mason City.

Seven Mason City police officers were involved in the apprehension of the two suspects, along with two Cerro Gordo county deputies. According to the sheriff’s office, Murphy attempted to flee on foot but was caught before he got far.

Murphy was charged with operating under the influence, interference with official acts, eluding a law enforcement vehicle, theft in the third degree, failure to control and driving while suspended. He is being held on $2,000 cash-only bond as he awaits a December 20th court date.

Rachelle Lynn Clayton was charged with interference with official acts, unlawful consumption, fifth degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Murphy has been charged numerous times with theft involving a motor vehicle and theft of an unoccupied motor vehicle.  He has been able, on more than one occasion, to plead to operating a vehicle without consent.  He is a convicted felon for burglary.

Clayton plead guilty to fifth degree theft in October.

North End, Drunkmeyer, Dude that was a drug man with a deal gone bad, cultural crescent and any other NIT buzzword I may be forgetting… yet very few references to Robin Anderson these days. Whats the matter have you gone soft? I’m disappointed… What has the North End done to you? It seems as if all the stories are about someone that did something to you so there must have been something

NIT is crazy with all this North end bias. The poor in MC will always seek comfort in drugs and alcohol. When life gets you down and you have nothing at least they have cannabis and booze to sooth the restless soul. Working for minimum wage will do that to a man.

As sad and as awful as this sounds, it’s probably too true.

All the “Northender” references are getting old. Who cares if they are from the north end? Just say Mason City residents, seriously it has gotten old.

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like someone’s gone off the deep end since the election. I’m sure they will deny it, defend it, and slam anyone who tries to go against it but ever since the election was over, NIT seems more slanted, vengeful, and full of personal agendas. So, go ahead bring on the denial now.

Why would you use a headline that says 2 North Enders? Why not 2 Mason City residents?

Because that doesn’t piss people off as much? Just guessing here.

They just keep on coming. As more and more brain dead druggers come out of the woodwork this will continue.
