WATERLOO -Waterloo police said Wednesday that they seized a dangerous firearm in the course of making an arrest last weekend.

According to police, on August 2nd at about 11:08 PM, officers with the Waterloo Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension team were conducting foot patrol in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 65 Conger St. At that time Officers observed several subjects in the parking lot along with a subject sitting in the backseat of a vehicle. Officers recognized the subject in the backseat as twenty-year-old Patrelle Jose Green-Bowman of Waterloo.

Green-Bowman exited the vehicle and began walking away from the vehicle as Officers approached. As Officers neared the vehicle, they observed a sawed-off shotgun in plain view in the backseat where Green-Bowman was sitting. Officers then took Green-Bowman into custody. During the investigation Officers determined the shotgun was loaded and the modified barrel was classified the firearm as an offensive weapon.

Green-Bowman was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail on felony charges for felon in possession of a firearm and possession of an offensive weapon.

I don’t know why these gun advocates can’t stand at the plate and defend all people. Just because you drink beer or toke pot you should still be able to have guns.

If you toke pot, you are already a law breaker. And if you are found guilty of a felony, you loose the right to own or posses firearms of any sort.

But of course you hold great disdain for our laws, and think they should never apply to you. Yet laws are the basis for your freedom, like it or not.

@Peter L.-once again you miss the whole point of what Observer is saying. Is that because you are so wrapped up in your own conspiracy thoughts you can’t see the truth? I can tell you for a fact that the people of Colorado and yes even California are so fed up with the crimes that pot legalization has brought on that there is a huge movement to repeal the laws. What will you say then? As a matter of fact, several county’s in Colorado want to succeed from the state and leave Denver all by itself. Just like what is going to happen in other liberal states.

@Peter L.-you can try to justify it anyway you want. He was still a felon in possession of a LOADED weapon. That makes it a dangerous weapon. They said “it was a dangerous weapon” not a illegal weapon. He is going to jail because he was a felon in possession of a weapon. It doesn’t really matter to much if it was legal or not. Just him having it made it illegal.

@Peter L.-Come on Peter. You know just as well as I do that the cops ALWAYS, ALWAYS stack up the charges. That is exactly what happened here. I am surprised they only hit him with the two. They throw as many as they can hoping that something will stick for more sentencing.

@Peter L.-Agreed. However, that is not how it works anymore. Damn shame.

Who exactly are you defending?!?!?! He was a FELON in possession of a LOADED firearm on the street. They can measure it when they check it into evidence and add charges if need be.

I am sure this logic must elude you but I will try to explain it to you one more time. The man was arrested for being a CONVICTED FELON in possession of a firearm. This is not a police state. The charge of possession of a dangerous weapon was an additional charge that may or may not ‘measure up’ (pun intended).

again I must say that peter and I disagree on many things but on this one we agree. If he was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm he needs to go to jail, that is NOT in question. It is the added charge of possession of a dangerous weapon that we question. Dangerous as in it could kill someone or illegal? If it is illegal then I have to question what part of it is illegal.

If you look at the length of the magazine the barrel can’t be less than 18.5″. I used to own a Mossberg 500 with an 18.5″ barrel and a pistol grip just like this one and it was perfectly legal.

I am not trying to justify him having the shotgun, as a felon he needs to go to jail no matter what kind of weapon it is, all I am saying is that from what I see the weapon isn’t illegal itself.

Just looking at the picture I would say it was under the 18″ allowed. There is only one reason to have a shotgun with a barrel that short and that is to use it for protection or to hurt someone else. It is worthless as a hunting gun. I don’t know where the pistol grip comes in. If that doesn’t make it illegal it certainly makes it look like assault weapon. He was still a felon in possession and that is the law. My personal opinion is, there are different types of felonies and if it wasn’t a armed robbery or some type of assault I think it is somewhat unfair to not let them own w gun. Just saying.
