MASON CITY – A Mason City man is in jail Monday after an investigation at his home brought on by an alleged assault on a woman.
Mercy Hospital East Campus contacted the Mason City Police Department reference a female victim that was at the emergency room reporting an assault. During the course of the investigation officers determined that the incident took place at a residence located at 308 21st S.E. in Mason City, Iowa. Mason City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and responded to assist in the investigation.
Officers were able to obtain a search warrant for the above property. North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force Special Operations Group assisted the Mason City Police Department in the execution of the warrant.
Police arrived at about 11 PM and remain at the scene.
The property owner, Mark O’Gorman was detained. He was later transported to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office were he was held on the below criminal charges.
During the execution of the warrant multiple explosive devices were located inside the residence. The Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office was contacted and responded to the scene. They were able to render the devices safe.
Mark O’Gorman was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a class “C” Felony, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, a class “D” Felony, 2 counts of Possession of Incendiary Device, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, False Imprisonment, a Serious Misdemeanor, Serious Assault, a Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Controlled Substance, a Serious Mideanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a simple misdemeanor.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Mason City Police Department. The Mason City Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
Police also confirmed that a woman died at the same residence almost exactly one year ago. The female found deceased in the residence was Julie Ann Johnson, 45 yrs old. The state medical examiner ruled the manner of death as accidental. That incident took place on July 4th, 2012.

Damn South End. I wonder if the explosives they found were just fireworks. The North End has gotten pretty quiet. They all moved south.
Explosives ARE fireworks and unless it is a snake or sparkler, it is illegal in the state of Iowa. People who have illegal fireworks in the state of Iowa are a lot like pot smokers it would seem.
@Anonymous-All I can tell you is there are a lot of people that have fireworks and the police do nothing much to stop them. It sounded like a war up here all weekend. I can put up with it as long as they don’t start my house on fire. At least they are not stealing my stuff like the dope heads do.

More like what’s going on allover this town doesn’t matter what end your on. Who cares what the fireworks were, the assault on women in this town is over the top and a lot of these tuff guys are getting slap on wrist or nothing at all
