Human remains found Wednesday may be those of missing Plainfield woman

577ebf152151e.imageWAVERLY, IOWA – The search for a missing, elderly Plainfield, Iowa woman may have turned out tragically, police say.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016 the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office received a report of human remains located near a residence at 1477 120th Street, north of Horton. The body was found by a local farmer around 1:30 PM while harvesting a corn field.

An investigation of the scene strongly suggests the remains are those of Cloris Mehmen, who went missing July 5, 2016. The body was located approximately half a mile from Mehmen’s residence and where she was last seen.

An autopsy has been scheduled at the state Medical Examiner’s Office, in Ankeny, for identification and to attempt to determine the cause of death.

No foul play is suspected.

Family has been notified.
