Two arrested on felony charges after investigation into stolen bike

MASON CITY – Two Mason City men are charged with felonies after a bike was stolen and one of the suspects ran from and spat on officers.

According to Mason City police, on the evening of April 2, 2015, officers were investigating a stolen bicycle that had been recovered near 6th and North Penn Avenue. John Hanse, age 41, was arrested for felony second degree theft. One of his associates, 18-year-old Tyler Nicholas Thompson, allegedly spat on an officer and then tried to run from the officers. Thompson was arrested on April 6 and charged for felony second degree theft, interference with official acts, and simple assault. Both men are now in the county jail awaiting court dates.

Meanwhile, Thompson faces more trouble after a guilty plea to an assault he committed last year.

He was arrested by Mason City police on October 27, 2014 on a charge of serious assault causing injury. He pleaded guilty to that charge on February 23, 2015 and received a 365 day jail term with 335 days suspended. He was also placed on probation for two years and ordered to pay $892.75 in fines and court costs. That day in court, the judge modified the no-contact order with the victim to expire a year later. Two days later, on February 25, 2015, Mason City police were called to 215 7th Street NE for a family offense and dispute. Upon arrival, they discovered Thompson at the scene. He was arrested for violating the no-contact order. On March 2, he was found guilty of the no contact order violation and sent to jail for 7 days. He has now been accused of violating his probation and faces a probation revocation hearing on April 20.

Bubba will love Thompson in prison. They are everywhere and now that the weather is getting warmer they are coming out of hibernation.

Do these two faces look like somebody who would rob or assault you?
