Attorney General says “deep mistrust” exists between police and residents “around this country”

From Attorney General Eric Holder –

Following Michael Brown’s tragic death, millions of people across the nation and around the world have focused their attention on unfolding events in Ferguson, both grieving together and making their voices heard.

In recent days, many have been captivated by ongoing developments, anguished emotions, peaceful protests — and, too often, deeply unfortunate images of unnecessary destruction. And this tragic incident has sparked a necessary, national conversation about the need to ensure trust and build strong relationships between law enforcement officials and the communities they serve.

Events in Ferguson have revealed a deep distrust between a community and its police force. But this reality is not limited to one location. Other communities around this country know this struggle all too well. And it’s abundantly clear that every single one of us has a role to play in tackling this problem together, as a nation — to identify those things that bind us, and to be honest with one another about the things that continue to divide us.

In August, President Obama ordered a review of federal funding and programs that provide equipment to state and local law enforcement agencies. Yesterday, the Administration released that review’s findings — and announced key next steps to strengthen the trust in and effectiveness of the policing of our communities.

Here are the next steps we’re taking:

  • Creating a new task force to promote the expansion of 21st century community-oriented policing.
  • Reforming how the federal government equips local law enforcement, particularly with military-style equipment.
  • Advancing the use of body-worn cameras and promoting proven community policing initiatives.

I know this has been a difficult time for people in Ferguson, and for many others across the country. It will take time for things to get better. But as I assured Ferguson residents during my visit there, in August, the Obama administration is firmly committed to making the progress we need — and that all of our citizens deserve.

The changes that the President announced yesterday are exactly the sorts of programmatic steps that will bring the right people together to engage in a constructive, national conversation — so we can build trust, address persistent concerns, and protect public safety while respecting the rights of every American.

Last Tuesday, addressing the public, the President said, “[to] those who are prepared to work constructively, your President will work with you.” I am committed to answering the President’s call to see this through — as are the men and women of the United States Department of Justice.

The sole reason for government existence is to collect revenue, end of story

…he can see all this mistrust between the police and residents around the country…but he is unable to see the mistrust between the residents of the country and the present administration and the way he (Holder) has conducted himself???

If he was any kind of Attorney General he would be going after the IRS. What there doing affects all americans black and white. Just think of what they say if we didn’t pay our taxes because our computers crashed.

He should of said Americans have a deep mistrust of the Obama administation. This race baiter, gun runner should be locked up with rest of the crooks.

Help fan the flames, with Holder and Sharpton…

I guess I really don’t know if they were on duty police or not, but does it really make a difference. Is it only news if a police officer takes a life. My point was, that there was no sensational national news in the deaths below. The world would not have known about the events in Ferguson, (sp) if it hadn’t been for the media sensationalizing it. I caught part of a news clip on Fox news yesterday about 5 youths beating to death a guy with hammers, in front of his wife. Haven’t heard any…

@Allen-I saw the same report on the poor guy in St. Louis. Not hardly a word about it on any of the left wing channels. Five black kids beat this white guy to death in front of his wife just because he was white. Maybe it is time for us to go on a rampage too. We could run around and burn down businesses that had nothing to do with it. It might be a opportunity to get a free TV.

Allen and LVS. Point well taken but just wondering….. were all those black males law enforcement officers on duty at the time of the murders?

Thank you Allen, let’s see what the socialist say about this.

The “socialists” say that justice is being done in these cases as the killers have been charged with murder. They will have their day in court. In St. Louis and New York, the killers won’t have to spend a day in court because, apparently, they can do what they want if they have a badge.

@bodacious-the next time you or your family need any kind of help or protection call a liberal. They broke the law and in both cases resisted arrest. That is what happens when the break the law. They should do it to all liberals, and we just might.

You break the law and you should be shot or strangled? Come on….you really believe that?

If you resist arrest or attack a officer you deserve whatever you get. They were criminal’s, thieves and thugs. If you want to feel sorry for someone feel sorry for the businesses that were destroyed or the shop owner that was robbed.

Did you watch the video that showed Garner “resisting” arrest? You must have missed something….and now that it’s me instead of Matt, you think the police were justified?

If I was being choked and I couldn’t breathe I wouldn’t be resisting arrest, I would be fighting for survival.

@GRAND Jury refused to bring charges on the officer and that is the way our system works. Just because you want to jump on the emotional bandwagon with the rest of the idiots doesn’t change that at all. The law is the law and burning down other people’s businesses is not the way to get it changed. I am willing to bet if it was you or your family that just had their business destroyed by criminals and thugs you would feel different. If you say you wouldn’t it will make you a liar.

And, what does Matt or his opinion have to do with this? Is that your subtle way of trying to stir up crap. How very liberal of you.

You know LVS, I have many friends who are peace officers. None of them feel as you do that excessive force is necessary when confronting a subject who is resisting arrest.
And, when Matt came on another post, and said he saw the video and that Garner did nothing wrong, you said nothing in reply. So, there you go.
Your hatred for others is amazingly one-sided. If they don’t agree with you, they are idiots and deserve to die. You are a poor excuse for a human.

LVS, you have one thing in this world which you base your entire existence on: You showed up to some factory for 40 + years and did exactly as you were told. It felt right and true to you, and you received money which enabled you to keep your home, buy groceries and send your kids to college. That’s the ONLY thing you’ve ever accomplished on this planet. Do you know how simple that is to do? Anyone can do as they are told. It’s no reason to feel like you now run the world.

@Bodacious-The police are not the problem in this country today. As a matter of fact they are about the only thing that is right. It is people like you and that brain dead Philospussv that are the real problems. You enable the crooks an welfare baby’s like Philospussv. Neither one of you have ever done anything positive in your lives and should have been locked up years ago.

Season’s Greetings, buddy.

LVS most of the time I agree with you but this time not so much. I admit that most of the time the violence is brought on by the civilian but I would say that there is a new breed of cop that craves power and respect and will do almost anything to get it.

@Philospussv-You forgot that while I was working I was paying taxes so a leech like you could exist. I also saved hundreds if not thousands of jobs for other people so they could support their family’s. You on the other hand have done nothing but sponge off other people and live in a basement. The only thing you have ever become good at was being delusional and a liar.

When the consumption rate doesn’t surpass the production, surplus results. You can hem and haw about “leeches” and the sort, but the bottom line is society wouldn’t be supporting humans with their surplus if they couldn’t afford to do so. It’s the equivalent of throwing out food from a buffet or giving it to the local homeless shelter. If you throw it out and waste it…you’re a DICK. Why be a Dick? I lived off the support of my family because they owed me.

You can keep posting those statistics all day long. It has no relevance to how the police forces treat citizens. The issue is excessive police use of force…not random citizen on citizen crime.
