Northside Liquor cited for selling booze to underage patron

northside-liquorMASON CITY – An employee at Northside Liquor has been cited for selling alcohol to an underage customer.

On October 1, 2014, police department employees observed an employee at Northside Liquor, located at 18 13th Street NE, sell alcohol to an 18-year-old person without asking for ID. Once the transaction occurred, and the 18-year-old was allowed to leave with the alcohol, Police made contact with the employee, Asif Ubaid.

Ubaid was issued a citation, evidence was seized, and officers collected necessary information to file a violation report with the Iowa Alcohol Beverage Division.

Periodically, the Mason City Police Department conducts alcohol compliance checks on Mason City establishments licensed to sell alcohol. The Mason City Youth Task Force sends out letters to licensed permittees in advance warning permit holders that police will be conducting compliance checks.

The possible fine for a licensee or permittee (the retail store) is $1,500, and the scheduled fine for a person who is employed by a licensee or permittee is $500.

I would bet money that the minor was a female. Anytime I go there without a female, I get my ID checked. Anytime I show up with a female, regardless of who it is or if they have never bought liquor from Northside before, I have never been asked for ID.

Good… I have nothing against drinking responsibly, but selling to minors to make a buck, is wrong…
