MASON CITY – A traffic stop in a troubled area of Mason City led to three persons being cuffed and one person arrested.
Iowa State Patrol along with Mason City police stopped a white automobile at the corner of 2nd Street SW and Madison Avenue Wednesday evening at about 8:04 PM, just a block off of Monroe Avenue, where a large brawl erupted the previous evening.
At the scene, police had three persons outside the stopped car. Two were in handcuffs sitting in the grass next to the street as officers went through the trunk, backseat and the rest of the vehicle. A backpack, a bag and pill bottles appeared to be pulled out of the car as a man and a woman looked on, cuffed. The man, identified by police as Terry Alan Thompson, had one knee in the grass and the other lower, off the curb in the street. The unnamed woman laid back nonchalantly in the grass. Police continued to question them as the search was conducted.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the street, troopers with the Iowa State Patrol performed a field sobriety test on a male subject, Scott Greeley. An officer demonstrated for the male how to perform the “walk a straight line” test, and also had him follow his index finger as he moved his hand slowly past Greeley’s face.
As police tried to determine if the driver of the white vehicle was sober (Scott Greeley), Mason City police officers appeared to search and scour the nearby grassy areas, and a few items were picked up and placed into a bag. The cuffed man, Thompson, was then led on a walk and it seemed officers were seeking information on items that may have been thrown from the vehicle. Sgt. Steve Klemas had a somewhat animated discussion with Thompson and appeared to be asking him to come clean about any information he might have.
As the officers wrapped up their search of the white car, the woman was uncuffed and grabbed a cigarette. She took several deep puffs and sat back down in the grass. Cops gave her back some white pill bottles that they were examining. Mason City police said Greeley was cited and released for driving under suspension and operation without registration. He and the woman got up and sauntered away, heading north on Madison Avenue.
Their companion, Thompson, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and taken away in a police car. The white car was left at the scene and later impounded.
Coincidentally, Thompson and Greeley were arrested in May for allegedly stealing cans from the Fareway can bin. Those cans are donations for the community’s Fourth of July fireworks fund.

A traffic stop could have happened on any side of town. Where do you get your references that there’s always trouble here? I live a few blocks from this area and never hear anything.
ps a true show of professionalism from Mr Marquardt in slamming literally every press person in the community.
@Anonymous-If you can’t see what is going on around you, you must be blind, deaf, stupid and ignorant. Or,probably all of the above.
YOU: “A traffic stop could have happened on any side of town.”
My retort: DUH.
YOU: “Where do you get your references that there’s always trouble here?”
My retort: I was there in person. I was also there on Wed. night during the nearby brawls up and down Monroe. I have covered numerous drug busts and other altercations in that general vicinity. Search the keyword “Monroe” on NIT for more proof.
YOU: “I live a few blocks from this area and never hear anything.”
My retort: So, you are a shut-in who hides in a closet with his hearing aides turned to ‘low’… and that proves what?
YOU: “ps a true show of professionalism from Mr Marquardt in slamming literally every press person in the community.”
My retort: I have zero interest in your idea of so-called “professionalism”. I have a blast doing things my way here on NIT and really only plan on ratcheting things up to new levels. The thin-skinned media and elite should buckle up for lots more fun, because it’s on the way.
Is this the new BLUE ZONE we have been hearing about ???
Kind of funny neither the globe or kimt mentioned anything about the incident on Monroe. Why are they trying to hide there is problems in Mason City. If we keep bringing into town these losers we better hire more police.
Most of the Glob’s best reporters are too busy with second jobs to be bothered with breaking news, and ole elephant man Skipper can’t walk that far. The KIMT people are too lazy, underpaid and just plain dumb to chase hard news. Over at the radio station, Bobby The Torn Windbreaker Boy was fast asleep after eating a box of Twinkies and two gallons of chocolate milk. On the whole, these are not hard-working people. Don’t expect much news from them but more lies and catering to the elite.
Just some of Mason City’s finest citizens cruising the local ghetto looking for action.
Was this on the 800 block of north monroe? I heard there is always trouble there
