CLEAR LAKE – A $50,000 payment was made by the Clear Lake School District to a former student, the Clear Lake Mirror has reported.
NIT was alerted to the payment in recent days, which was listed among other expense payments in the Clear Lake Mirror print newspaper but not elaborated on as to what the payment was for, only stating it as a miscellaneous payment. NIT attempted to contact School Superintendent Anita Micich to ascertain the details behind the payment, but she did not respond.
According to the Mirror, the payment was made due to bullying that a Clear Lake student, Spencer Davidson, suffered while a student at Clear Lake high School. The Mirror said that as a term of the settlement between the Davidson family and the school district, Clear Lake football coach Fred Wieck will issue a letter of apology to Spencer Davidison. In addition, the district will amend its bullying policies.
The complaint had been filed with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission.
Does anyone remember the incident at MCHS back in the early 90s or late 80s ? I remember reading that it was a mess at the school ..she as I recall was bullied so bad by students and NO ONE did anything about it ? I believed they tried suing the school … and never got any where with it …I believe they had to move due to the stress of the incident …
What did Wieck do? I have never heard any positive comments about Wieck, so I wasn’t surprised his name was in this story.

Never read it, but this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. The Globe is all about controlling the message and leading the sheep by ignoring truths and stifling free speech. I think the FBI should raid 300 North Washington. The place is just plain bad for the public, sold out to the Chamber of Commerce and big business, and protects its cronies. Don’t buy it, don’t read it, you will feel better about yourself in the morning.
NIT has me under its spell. I continue to come to NIT everyday, wishing I could read the stories, and waste my time making stupid, whiny comments. I really think I need to seek counseling due to my addiction and jealousies of NIT. Meanwhile, I forgot to ask the last customer if he wanted fries with his burger.

I think he is still a little better than the homosexual hairdresser who used to be on Council

You are only hearing one side of the story. This is a troubled family that went through 3 school districts in 4 years. Could have seen this as a possible outcome. Again, you are only hearing one side
It seems both sides are reported. It’s really more about judging wieck about his “entire” record, rather than just this issue. I think people have seen his bad judgments in the past and are not cutting him any slack on this one, right or wrong. Sometimes your past cathches up to you.
$50k for bullying a student, yet bullies ride down our streets every moment if every day, and all we ask for is a simple pullover, warning, or ticket. We get NOTHING. Come on, it’s one kid compared to thousands. Maybe a lawsuit against the city of clear lake should happen?
His FINAL years? Anyone else would have lost their job with all of the things he has done that has embarrassed the district the last 20 years. It sickens me.
I agree! Clear Lakers with power and money wanted winning football teams and gave Fast Freddie anything he wanted at any price. Trophies yes….honesty and integrity NO from coach looser. Its way past time that he should have his ticket punched and his number retired.
Unfortunately, Weick’s final years were over-shadowed by numerous transgressions and indiscretions. Miscich is culpable for her inability to negotiate a better settlement in cooperation with the attorneys, as well as her disregard for a simple legitimate call for information by the NIT.
The MC school district is not open and transparent. This is a reflection of the top-down, starting with the superintendent. The board meetings should be recorded and displayed on the district’s website, at the very least. The school board members are un-reachable. No email addresses or phone numbers listed on district web site. The district, many times when asked questions, stalls or never answers. (Some are good about replying to questions.) The district’s finances need to be audited and laid bare for public scrutiny. I think the district is spiraling out of control. Furthermore, if the public is relying on the Globe Gazette to report about the district in a fair and un-biased way, they are being sorely dis-serviced. That is like the fox guarding the henhouse. Wake up people and demand that these public servants serve you.
I agree with you about any expectations the Globe has any interest in ensuring Micsih is comporting herself responsibly. She is grossly over-paid, but so are all superintendents and the educational higher-ups. The reason she doesn’t return your phone calls is that she frankly isn’t very quick on her feet and is only smart in a “bookish” sense. You have every right to make an issue of the attempted “down play” listed in the bills as miscellaneous $50,000.

He should be kicked out of the school system and fired. Fred your a big bully doing this to a student.
