VENTURA – A Ventura homeowner is recovering after being rescued from a residential fire early Sunday morning.
According to reports from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and the Ventura Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the 15000 block of Bayberry Avenue at 3:20 AM on March 15, 2026. Upon arrival, the first deputy on the scene discovered a 68-year-old male unresponsive inside the home, located near a wood stove that appeared to be the source of the blaze.
The deputy and Ventura Fire personnel successfully pulled the homeowner from the smoke-filled residence and immediately began lifesaving measures. Following the use of CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), the man regained responsiveness. He was subsequently transported by Clear Lake Fire Medics to MercyOne North Iowa for further treatment.
While the fire was extinguished by the Ventura Volunteer Fire Department, the residence suffered extensive fire and smoke damage. Authorities confirmed there were no other occupants in the home at the time of the incident. The rescue operation was assisted by the Clear Lake Police Department.
