Thelma (McNamara) Nixt, 87, of Greene, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2026, at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, 519 N. 1st St., Greene. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date.
Thelma Jean (McNamara) Nixt was born September 14, 1938 to George and Emma (Hesse) Tegtmeier in Marble Rock, Iowa She attended Marble Rock Community School.
On June 18, 1955, Thelma was united in marriage to Gerald McNamara, and to this union 5 children were born. Gerald and Thelma could be found playing cards, Yahoo or any kind of game on most Saturday evenings.
After Gerald’s passing in 1982, she met David Nixt and they married on June 12, 1987. They also loved to play cards and go for long drives but loved mostly going to see kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She always had candy or snacks for them and really didn’t care what their parents said.
Thelma was a hard worker and worked various housecleaning jobs, factory jobs and was a farmer’s wife. David passed away in 2020.
Living family members include her children: Marlene (Jeff) Kalvig; Marilyn Kraft; Mary (Richard) Johnson; Marj (Dan) Chipp; Mike (Renae) McNamara; 15 grandchildren: Nicholas Kalvig; Timothy (Kathryn) Kalvig; Kristofor (Callie) Kalvig; Breeanna Kalvig; Livia Kalvig; Carrie Kraft; Avery (Lauren) Johnson; Addison Johnson; Amy (Ryan) Bahnsen; Erin (Jed) Stegman; Logan (Caleigh) Chipp; Dalton (Carlie) Chipp; Tanner Hoth; Amber Hoth; 21 great grandchildren; sister: Lois Fisher.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald McNamara husband David Nixt, son-in-law: Charles Kraft and 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
