October 3, 1943 – February 12, 2026

Eldon Doane, 82, of Thornton, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 17 at 10:30 AM at the Thornton United Methodist Church, with interment at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Visitation will be Monday, February 16 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the church. Woodley Funeral Home of Thornton is caring for Eldon and his family.

Eldon was born October 3, 1943 in Mason City, Iowa to Elbert and Bernice (Smith) Doane.
Eldon was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Thornton. He attended Thornton High School and graduated with the class of 1962. He grew up and remained on the family farm near Thornton until July when he moved to Westview Care Center.

He and his dad fed cattle in his younger years. On September 12, 1970, he was married to Lavonne Wessels at the Reformed Church in Klemme, Iowa. Together, they raised hogs and farmed. In 2006, he retired from farming and continued to enjoy traveling to the western states, Canada, and took several cruises. He also worked delivering Winnebago motor homes for a time.

Eldon enjoyed spending time with his daughter and family, and spending time with Lavonne’s fun and crazy family at their get togethers with all of the fun times and laughter.
He was a member of the Thornton United Methodist Church.

Eldon is survived by his wife Lavonne of 55 years, daughter and son-in-law Laura and Steve Schlichting, grandchildren Cody Schlicting, Jessica Subject and her husband Coda Subject, great-grandchildren Jerzy and Dean Subject, brothers and sisters-in-law Bill and Arlene Harson, Carol Wessels, Karon Clements, and Roger and Sharon Frank, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, mother and father-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
