Clear Lake – Donald Allan Prestholt, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday February 13, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church, 302 East 4th Street, Hanlontown, IA 50444; with Pastor Linda Johnson-Prestholt officiating. A flag presentation will be held by Manly American Legion Post 110. Burial will take place at Elim Cemetery, rural Fertile, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in care of the family that will be donated in his memory.
Donald Allan Prestholt was born May 29, 1934, in rural Hanlontown, Iowa. The son of Alfred Gilman and Wilmie Ellen (Long). He received his education from Hanlontown Consolidated Schools, graduating in 1952. He honorably served his country in the United States Army.
Don owned and operated his own gas station, worked as a feed operator for the Hanlontown Coop, and farmed. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Fertile. He served as a Hanlontown city councilman and was a volunteer fireman for the Hanlontown Fire Department.
On October 10, 1968, Don married the love of his life Bonnie Sue from Kentucky and made their home in Hanlontown, Iowa, where they raised their four children. After raising their family, they moved to Clear Lake and in their later years relocated to the Lutheran Retirement Home. In 2025, Don moved to Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, IA.
Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his family made regular trips to Kentucky to visit Bonnie’s family, cherishing the time spent together. In his adult years, Don enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing cards. Later in life, he devoted countless hours to researching and preserving family history and genealogy, with a special interest in his Norwegian heritage.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Jenifer (Chad) Harrison, Kenneth “Ole” (Suzanne) Prestholt, David (Linda) Prestholt, and Vince Prestholt; grandchildren: Brenden Harrison, Haley (Drew) Walswick, Maranda (Bryce) Butler, Amy Prestholt, Aaron (Michaela) Prestholt, Alex Prestholt, Shanna (Jeff) Etherton, Brock Prestholt, Derek (Brenna) Prestholt, Luke (Kayla) Prestholt, Zephrey Prestholt, and Tanner Prestholt; 12 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, Alfred and Wilmie Ellen Prestholt; his brother Paul Prestholt; his parents-in-law, Dewey and Freda Monk; four sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; along with other extended relatives; his beloved wife of 55 years Bonnie Sue Prestholt on October 8, 2023.
