MASON CITY – A Clear Lake woman managed to roll her BMW into a ditch, and although she may have suffered a head injury, at least her child was unhurt.
According to the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office, on January 28, 2026, at about 10:30 AM, a black 2021 BMW X3 being driven by 37-year-old Desirrae Thompson of Clear Lake, Iowa, was traveling south on Jonquil Avenue near the intersection of 275th Street in Cerro Gordo County (near the Mason City Airport) when it entered the east ditch. Thompson’s vehicle rolled at least one time coming to rest on its top in the field.
As a result of th accident, Clear Lake Fire Rescue and Clear Lake Ambulance was called to assist and later transported Thompson to Mercy One NI for possible injuries to her head and neck area. Thompson was wearing a seat belt and both front and side airbags were deployed. There was also a 4-year-old child in the vehicle who appeared to be properly secured and uninjured from the accident. The child was transported to hospital by the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Department to be with her mother and was then picked up by her father.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Clear Lake Fire Medics, Clear Lake Fire Rescue, and Iowa State Patrol.
