DES MOINES – Today at a press conference in the state capitol building, Democrats proudly introduced the Black and Brown Caucus, comprised of elected officials in the Iowa Legislature who are vowing to advance the interests of persons of color.

The press conference was held Monday morning, January 26, 2026, in a room inside the Iowa State Capitol building. The public was invited, according to a flyer distributed by the group, which said “We would love to see you there!”

A reception was held 30 minutes later. According to the group, this was billed as an opportunity, to “Come together with legislators, community members, and advocates to celebrate a renewed commitment to representation, collaboration, and shared progress. We look forward to gathering, connecting, and marking this exciting new chapter. The event is open to the public.”

Leaders of this group of legislators appear to number about a dozen, and actually includes a couple of white guys. One of them said Monday, “Our vision has expanded and we want to specifically embrace brown Iowans… They have the experience of being seriously discriminated against and they are the largest minority in the state.”

According to reports, the Black and Brown Caucus is attempting first of all to advance a bill that would hamstring Homeland Security (“ICE agents”) if they wentto work here in Iowa. The supposed bill would ban officers from hiding their identities and keep them out of courthouses, schools and churches when seeking to snare illegals.

The Iowa Legislature is dominated by the Republican party at this time, holding firm majorities in each chamber, as well as the Governor’s seat.

  1. “Leaders of this group of legislators appear to number about a dozen, and actually includes a couple of white guys.” Do some research before you make stupid statements. Five of the twelve members are white. FIVE. What is wrong with “vowing to advance the interests of persons of color.”?

          1. We do. You ever been pulled over because you looked like (to an LEO) you might be a criminal? Do you tell you kids when they go out that if they get pulled over to obey every instruction and don’t ask questions? You ever had a President of the US call you a criminal or a drug smuggler? Didn’t think so.

            1. You flippantly speak that way to a white person, but if you did that to a person of color – it’d be a problem. But whites have the advantage, huh?

            1. You have any proof they don’t? I think speaking that way to you is a problem but not one I would be worried about. If I knew a Black or Brown person saying dumb ass things, I would call him or her out too.

    1. You on expert on skin color now I guess lol. I glanced at their group photos and saw a couple of very old demented white guys, I didn’t really care to examine it that close.

                1. Interesting that you believe that when you gobble up everything the biggest liar in our nation’s history says on a daily basis.
