Geraldine Marie Brummond, affectionately known as Geri to her friends and family, passed away on December 26, 2025, in her hometown of New Hampton, IA, at the age of 93. Born on September 26, 1932, the daughter of Carl and Maurine (Johnson) Holschlag.

Geri’s formative years were spent in the nurturing environment of St. Joseph Catholic School, followed by her graduation from New Hampton High School in 1951. With a sense of adventure and a drive to make a difference, she embarked on a career with the FBI in Washington, DC. It was during this exciting chapter of her life that she was proposed to by LaVern Brummond, and the couple exchanged vows on May 24, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the town where their story began.

The young couple was blessed with six children, and Geri embraced motherhood with grace and devotion. While nurturing her growing family, she also helped in the family business, the Redi-Mix. The untimely passing of LaVern in a work-related accident was a turning point for Geri, prompting her to return to her studies. She obtained her degree from Hawkeye Tech as a Medical Tech, demonstrating resilience and determination.

Geri’s career in the medical field was marked by her dedication to care and service. She first worked at a hospital in Burlington, then at Covenant in Waterloo, and finally served the community of New Hampton until her well-deserved retirement. Her professional journey was a testament to her ability to adapt and thrive through life’s challenges.

In retirement, Geri found love once again with Robert Clasen. They married on January 23, 2004, and together they explored the world, sharing countless adventures and opening each other’s eyes to new experiences. Geri’s passion for travel took her to many countries and continents, enriching her life with diverse cultures and landscapes.

A devout Christian, Geri lived her faith through action. She dedicated time to guiding young girls as a Girl Scout leader and volunteered tirelessly at St. Joseph School. Her commitment to the youth of her community was unwavering, and she took great joy in contributing to their growth and well-being.

Geri’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid reader, she was seldom seen without a book, lost in the pages of her latest literary journey. Her love for quilting was more than a hobby; it was an expression of her creativity and a source of joy. The beautiful quilts she crafted were not only works of art but also symbols of the love and care she put into everything she did.

Geraldine Marie Brummond leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity. Her life was a journey of learning, giving, and loving, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Geri is survived by her two sons, Randy Brummond and Dan (Sandy) Brummond, all of New Hampton, IA; two daughters, Becky (Rich) Schoenfeld of New Hampton, IA, and Cindy Kellogg of Ionia, IA; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren; one step-son, Jay (Linda) Clasen of Kansas City, MO; one son-in-law, Jack Roethler of New Hampton, IA; three sisters-in-law, Paula Holschlag of Waverly, IA, Elaine (Chuck) Denner of New Hampton, Camilla (Don) Conway of Cresco.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, LaVern Brummond; second husband, Robert Clasen; two children, Richard “Dick” Brummond, and Kathleen Roethler; two grandchildren, Matthew Schoenfeld and Mandy Brummond; two brothers, Thomas and Timothy Holschlag; one son-in-law, Leslie Kellogg; one daughter-in-law, Joy Brummond.
