WEST UNION – Northern Iowa police agencies teamed up to snare two suspects for child grooming and exploitation crimes, authorities said.
The West Union Police Department has made two arrests in the past three days involving sexual exploitation of minor and grooming. These arrests occurred in McGregor and Evansdale, with assistance from the MarMac Police Department and the Evansdale Police Department. We appreciate their cooperation and support throughout these investigations.
As these cases demonstrate, the dangers facing our youth online are real and evolving. Parents and guardians should maintain open communication with their children about who they interact with on the internet, monitor the platforms and applications they use, and reinforce the importance of not sharing personal information. If something feels wrong, it usually is. Report suspicious activity immediately.
“Our commitment is straightforward: we will continue to pursue individuals who target minors, and we will use every available tool and partnership to keep the youth in our communities safe,” police said after the operation was completed.
Nicolas John Gerstenkorn (27) of Evansdale, Iowa has been charges with sexual exploitation of a minor, dissemination of obscene material to a minor, and grooming.

James Michael Eberhart Sr. (52) or McGregor, Iowa has been charges with sexual exploitation of a minor, dissemination of obscene material to a minor, and grooming.

Both are being held at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on $25,000 bonds.
