David Grant Iverson was born on August 12, 1964, to Lauren and Selma (Benson) Iverson in Cresco, IA. In third grade, his family moved to New Hampton, and he graduated from high school in 1983. He married Teresa Maloy and to this union his two children, Chelsey and Cody, were born. Dave joined the Air Force after high school and served for six years. While in the Air Force, he trained as an aircraft mechanic working on B-52s and B-1 bombers. Anyone who knows Dave knows that he was very proud to be a veteran. After his service in the Air Force, Dave and his family returned to Iowa. For the next 30+ years, he worked as a mechanical engineer at various companies.
Dave spent much of his free time in high school and into his adult years working on cars; he especially enjoyed teaching and working on them with Cody. He had many muscle cars, but his pride and joy was his blue and white 1955 Chevy Bel Air. Dave was also a gifted singer; he wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to sing karaoke and was asked to sing at many weddings and funerals. When not working on cars or singing, Dave was busy helping his dad and brother Daryl build houses. He loved a challenge—always tinkering, improving, or fixing something. With a smirk, he’d often say he was a jack of all trades, master of none. Another source of pride for Dave was that he was a life-long fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sundays were always fun days in his house. Whether he was working or socializing, Dave was a fun, witty jokester. He was always smiling and having a good time.
Later in life, Dave met Shari and her little dog Roscoe. He asked her (and Roscoe) to go for a ride in his 1967 Camaro, and the rest is history. They made their home in Lawler and were later married. Dave loved animals; Roscoe and the kitties were his favorites. His heart was always full, and his lap was never empty.
The final note has played, yet his rhythm lives on.
“You know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe; harmonic connection between all living beings, everywhere, even the stars.”
