CHARLES CITY – The City of Charles City announced the appointment of Tyler Trout as their new City Administrator. Trout, who most recently served as City Administrator in Avoca, Iowa, brings experience in municipal management and other public service to the position. His appointment follows the departure of former City Administrator Steve Diers, who took on a new role in Clear Lake earlier this year.
Tyler Trout’s professional journey is rooted in North Iowa. A lifelong resident of the region, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Public Service and Public Policy from Arizona State University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Currently, he is pursuing his Master of Public Administration (MPA) at Drake University. Trout’s work in local government includes leadership roles in both municipal operations and corrections, having previously worked at the Cerro Gordo County Jail and completed an internship with the City of Mason City.
In his current role as City Administrator of Avoca, Trout has led several successful initiatives, including the development of a comprehensive 30-year capital improvement plan and the introduction of cutting-edge acoustic camera technology to enforce traffic noise ordinances. Under his leadership, the city has also made significant strides in community engagement, with Trout creating a new Community Relations Coordinator position to strengthen local outreach.
“I am honored and excited to accept the position of City Administrator in Charles City,” said Tyler Trout. “This opportunity resonates deeply with both my professional goals and personal roots. As a lifelong North Iowan, I have long admired the vibrancy, resilience, and community spirit of Charles City. My wife and I are eager to raise our daughter here and contribute to the ongoing success of this wonderful community.”
Trout’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as the city continues to evolve and grow. As City Administrator, he will work closely with Mayor Dean Andrews and the City Council to ensure that Charles City remains a place of opportunity, innovation, and collaboration for its residents. He is committed to fostering transparent governance, supporting long-term growth, and implementing forward-thinking solutions that serve the needs of the community.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tyler Trout to Charles City,” said Mayor Andrews. “His experience in both municipal operations and leadership, along with his passion for community engagement, make him an excellent fit for our city. We are confident that Tyler’s vision and commitment will be a valuable asset to Charles City as we continue to grow and thrive.”
Tyler Trout will officially begin his duties as City Administrator on December 1, 2025, and looks forward to engaging with the community and city leaders to build on Charles City’s bright future.
